For all the cobalt ss owners that car is very nice and theres nothing wrong with it. This forum alot of people are amazed at the v8 power and even more are impressed with the v6. This car is made to be a step up from a cobalt times 2 and yet not to jump the corvettes. if you guys want a 4 camato then why not just have a more powerful and lighter cobalt. Leave the Camaro alone! Gm didnt bring it back to be a less powerful car, they brought it back to be better then a stang and cheaper then a challenger. if i wanted a cobalt id but one of those(no offense to cobalt owners)

The Cobalt coupe is a great entry level sporty car that's pretty much geared for the younger crowd. The SS version has good power and handling and there are lots of mods out there for it if they want to get into the tuner scene.

The Camaro to me has always been about bang for the buck V8 power for people that couldn't or didn't want to pay the extra money for a Corvette and that wanted a more functional daily driver with 4 seats. But then you also have the V6 version of the car. What better way to have an awesome looking ride without spending more money for V8 horsepower that isn't wanted or wouldn't be used.

The Corvette is the top dog. It's purpose built. And that purpose is to rip up any type of track. It's all about the V8 and mass horsepower with lighter weight and only 2 seats.

To put a 4 cylinder engine in a Camaro would be like putting a V6 in a Corvette and to me that just doesn't seem right. It goes against my own personal thoughts of what makes these cars what they are. I know it's a pretty close minded believe but I've just always been such a huge fan of late 60's early 70's muscle cars. Ever since seeing a '69 Camaro SS I wanted every sports car I'd get to have a V8. If the V6 was 400hp and the V8 was only 350hp, I'd still take the V8. Just old school thinking I guess and I'm only 30, lol.

Sorry I must emphatically disagree with you on that point, the very first Corvette came with a straight six, and was only available with a six. The Corvette is a fiberglass (or carbon fibre in place of fiberglass) bodied sports car, that was the original idea for the corvette. At the time the fiberglass body was the most important part that was the corvettes whole reason for being hence when Carol Shelby approached GM about using the corvette for his racing program (this is before the AC Cobra came to be) and insisted that the Corvette have an aluminum body Zora D said no it had to keep the fiberglass, the rest is history and the Corvette program and the AC Cobra came to pass. But to reiterate my point it isn't the engine that makes a corvette a corvette it's whole package, if you get caught up on the engine you miss the big picture and just how amazing the corvette is.

Just for the record, Lancia and Ford of Europe have sold V4 powered cars.

I guess I should have been more specific. I realize that different engines were used in the past and probably will be used in the future. But I'm basing my own opinions on what the cars are today and how I've viewed them growing up. I don't think it would be right to put a V6 in todays Corvette or even tomorrows Corvette for that matter.

Let me ask you this though...if the current Corvette had a 200hp V6 you would still view it the same?

I don't like the dated looks of the Cobalt. The Cruze's looks I'm kinda borderline on, but it's still a front drive compact, i.e. why would I take it over a Civic. The Camaro is bigger, RWD and...LOOKS LIKE A CAMARO. I would prefer that.

PS. My wife had an Iron Duke 3rd Gen Firebird. They DO NOT need to do THAT again.

They could just make a Camaro body out of fiberglass and drop it over a VW pan like they did in the 70's...that would get pretty good mileage yes no?

How some automakers don't use the V architect for 4 cylinder engines ?

You want your cake and to eat it too I see. Sorry it's not sugar free. They current setup is not that bad is you drive carefully you may verry well get 30mpg highway. The car just needs a diet and to shrink in size If you would like to ge to those numbers.
