OP has been spending too much time eating paint chips.

Engines and mpg don't work this way, sorry.

Ya, don't believe the meter.

We drove 7200 miles across country and back... and then some in our Dodge Ram 2500 diesel pulling our camper last September. I reset the computer and trip and recorded every mile and every gallon of fuel on the entire trip. The computer read almost 13 mpg when in fact after I took total miles/total gallons used, it was right around 9 mpg. So that's about a 30% margin of error in the computer.

I usually fill up every third or second day of driving to the base. 114 miles round trip. Usually I'm filling up between 14.5 and 16 gallons and get around 320-340 a tank. This past tank, 490 miles and that was probably 90% highway at 72mph and the rest stop and go city traffic. After that last tank I filled up with 15 gallons. So that's about 32 miles per gallon average. I'm betting on a long haul (100% highway) I would be well over 550 per tank.

You're getting 32 mpg fine but it's not bc of the air filter set up.

Wow thanks ass...just reporting what the DIC says. If there's a discrepancy with the meter than that's another issue

yeah, the best way to get an accurate reading is reset the trip and do the math at the end of the tank of fuel... My Mercury Milan said 26.6 mpg on the last tank, but the math proved it to be 27.3 mpg.

Either way...interesting.

Well even if the meter is wrong the jump from 340 miles per tank to 490 miles per tank is awesome. I always reset a trip monitor every time I fill up

Warranty? I have never had problems with that. Even when my engine blew and had all sorts of issues with the tranny and clutch they never said anything about my cai or flowmasters. I got lemon law on the issue and a huge chunk of change since my car was at the shop for 40+ days

You know what dude, haters gonna hate.

Keep it up... if this actually works I see myself doing it very shortly...especially with gas prices.

Could it be, in part, after your mod you are driving differently? In a manner that would save fuel. It could even be sub-consciencely. My guess is some of it is at least the fact that you are driving differently trying to improve your mpg.

If I really drive like I'm trying to save fule my average mpg goes from it's usual 22.4 to a healthy 30.8. That said, I really have to drive like a miser.

Hard to believe a different shaped intake cone can improve fuel economy by 8 mpg. Other variables must be in play. Given the time of year, the switch from winter blend to summer blend fuel probably accounted for some of it. Temperature and wind are big ones that vary quite a bit this time of year as well. Not sure what gas is like in Ohio, but it may or may not be possible that different stations have different ethanol contents as well.
