i have a weird question on Hose that goes to intake tube

Ok, on my Dads car today I took the hose off that goes to the CAI tube right before the TB while running and it has smoke coming out and smells very bad. Is this normal? I am not sure if my Video camera will pick it up. WTF is it? there is a RX catch can on the car went to drain and no oil came out. Also car has the stock tune in it at the moment. Camaro is a 2010 L99

Well first, I would put the air hose back in. Then run her and see if the problem comes back

Yes, does same thing. I told my Dad to call the dealer and have checked to see if he needs parts replaced, service bulletin b/c there is lots of oil in the intake.

You mean the hose on the passenger side of the intake tube that goes to the passenger side valve cover? That's the breather tube and it's normal for it to have bad smelling gasses coming out of it. That's the whole reason it goes into the intake tube, so it doesn't get vented to the atmosphere.

to the intake right before TB. Not sure what is going on with his car b/c there is no oil in the can but sure is in the CAI and the Intake after the TB. He has an appointment to get it checked, printed out the service bulletien for him.

Angry Dumb Dealer

So today I went with my Dad to the dealer to get his car looked at for the oil in the intake and gave the service manger the print out from this site for oil consumption.. They open the hood and then close it! Said they have to get authorization b/c it has a CAI and catch can on it. Told them bought the can before he took it to them. Would not even look at it. Said when they hear back will call.

There is nothing wrong with the car. you took the hose off, of course you will smell the crap that is supposed to get recirculated back into the intake system. Why did u take it off to begin with? Yes, the dealer is within their right to not fix the car until authorized by GM to fix it under warranty. Your beef is not with the dealer, but with GM.

Oil in the intake manifold is the nature of the beast and most all modern cars because of all the emissions standards etc...That's the whole purpose for having the catch can, to take the oily vapor from the intake manifold, deposit the oil in the catch can and return the gases back to the system. My question would be how long has the catch can been on there? And how low on oil is your dad's L99?

I've also got an RX catch can on my LS3 but I have a RotoFab cai. I installed both at 13kmiles. So I had 13k miles worth of oil residue to get rid of, that was in my intake manifold prior to installing the catch can. So I seafoamed the car to clean it out as best as possible. I recently got my oil changed at 15k, I drained the can last night so I can be in sync with my oil changes and got less than 1/4 teaspoon out of it after 2k miles. Are you sure the can is hooked up correctly? Because when I installed mine I looked at the L99 install guide and it looked a little bit more involved and confusing than for the LS3. The oil in the CAI could still be left over from before the catch can install. My guess is that the oil that is meant for the catch can is going to the CAI instead leading me to think something might not be hooked up right Without pictures or video its difficult to evaluate.

Over a thousand miles. There is lots of oil in the intake and the CAI. I checked and the can is hooked up right. I also turned the valve and put my finger on the drain house and has a pretty decent vacuum. He called a different dealer today and goes Wednesday to be looked at.

Well he sent me the instructions to make sure it was hooked up right. Just does not seam right. We think it is the lifters or the valve cover. Will not know until someone checks it out!
