Bought a new camaro ss, dealer installed mods

A few days ago I bought a new 2010 2ss l99 camaro (new left over). The dealership sent it to place called rocky ridge and had a few modifications done. These were the mods I was planning on doing anyway, and the price was right, so I bought it. They also are covering the mods under a lifetime powertrain warranty, so that's a good deal to me.

It has a lowering kit, bigger swaybars, cai, exhaust (it looks like just axleback), 20" foose wheels, carbon fiber engine covers, carbon fiber badges, and a lot of other little carbon fiber pieces.

The dealership said it has a "chip" in it, so I'm assuming it was tuned, but they also filled it with 87 octane . The check engine light came on last night after I was driving around for awhile, I need to get it read, but I'm hoping it has to do with the 87 octane.

Anyway, its an awesome car and handles like its on rails. It's a bit sluggish, probably because of the 87 octane, but I also came from a 460whp s197 mustang.

Make sure you do the fuse pull mod and put high octane gas in your car. Empty out all your low octane gas first. Your car is most likely running on the low octane tune. I've seen L99s dyno in the 290s rwhp after the dealership put low octane tune in them.

For whatever reason, many L99s remain stuck in the low octane tune mode so the fuse pull is needed.

Looks great! Congrats! Can't believe it. All that work and just to save a few bucks the dealer put 87 in it. Enjoy it

Thanks for the compliments.

I'm going to get the license plate holder removed, I just have to get plugs and paint them. I also plan on tinting the windows.

I believe, if tuned, the fuse pull will not work. It only works on the HEM tune. If I am wrong, please chime in.

I'm going to try it anyway, it wont hurt anything. I just have to burn through a half tank of gas.

Do you guys think that the check engine light would be from this, it seems like an obvious correlation to me, if its knocking bad enough, the cel would light up.

Nice car man! I love coming across another member of the hood and hockey stripe family!

If the car has CAI and exhaust only, its unlikely that its tuned. The CEL could be anything, go to autozone (or similiar) and have them run the check on it. Do yourself a favor, take it to a tuner and have them verify what tune is in the car. If its the stock tune, which I am guessing, the fuse pull will take care of the 87 octane but if its an aftermarket tune

I doubt it. The car CAN run on 87... it just doesnt perform as well. It really could be anything.

And where are my manors... WELCOME! There is a lot of to weed through here but good info as well.

If you are intersted in and clubs, look into PACE (Pittsburgh Area Camaro Enthusists). I think thats a new club, mostly 5th gens or NEOCC (North East Ohio Camaro Club). Been around much longer, of which I am a member.

Not sure how "active" in the Camaro community you are looking to be. Let me know and I can fill you in on some pretty local events to you.

I am guessing the dealer was smoking something funny... lifetime warranty... a "chip" I'd get that car to a real tuner and have it checked over...

Not saying you bought something bad... just have a pro look at it. How was everything installed, is it clean, whats the tune look like... etc.

Formula, CONGRATS, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's and wive's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Congratulations on the new car.

I would take it straight to the dealer and get them to determine the issue.

U are right about the front lic plate holder. If not required by the state, it would be history.
