Misc. Fees on New Car Purchase - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Hello all. Been lurking the forums for a while and am finally ready to purchase a 2SS.

I test drove this past weekend and have been doing some negotiating with my local dealer. As of right now I have them down to around 500 over invoice with the below questionable fees involved.

I was wondering if any of you could enlighten me as to whether these were legit or just some extra fluff. I would love to get them down a little more

Accessories 199.00 (LOL at this one)
Notary Filing Fee 199.50
Tag Fee 69.00

Thanks in advance. Can't wait to finally get one so you guys can help me spend even more of my money

Tell him [do not ask ] , to take that out or you will do it for him by going to another place , and start walking away from the dealer in about 10 seconds after you finished saying the words , oh , and you have to say it with confident !!!

Look I'm all for getting a good deal, no doubt. But you fo have to let them make SOME money. That's how we all survive. If he's blatenly ripping you off, that's one thing. But if your getting it $500 over dealer cost and he's making a couple hundred on the back end...I think it's still fair. Don't get me wrong either, but you gotta let them keep the lights on.

Tag fee is probably legit if you are not trading in and need a new plate. "Accessories" should be itemized. If they won't tell you what they are, it is probably just mark-up. Notary Filing Fee; never heard of that one.

Don't forget the $1000 or so holdback. If they are selling for $500 over invoice, they are actually making closer to $1500.

+1 You should give Becky a call!

She is getting me the exact car I want at a reasonable price - while other dealers are charging $5k and more extra due to "high demand!!"

First, let me agree with some others here, Becky is the best, talk to her. Second, on my vehicle, the only fee I paid was a $250.00 document fee (tag, title, etc.). If this is what is covered by your tag and notary filing fee, these should be pretty legit. The $200.00 "accessory fee", however, is bullshit. Get them to pull that off or walk away. Also, for you and Camarowguy, you have to remember, dealer invoice does not equal dealer cost. There is also something called dealer hold back or rebate. This is true in most industries, and has been true in every industry I have ever worked in. The reseller gets "sold" at one price, then has a rebate on the back end. The reseller usually ends up selling near or at invoice, and the rebate is his profit. You should start by running your car with full options through Edmunds.com and Truecar.com to get a market value. If your dealer can't beat that price, walk away.

I got my 2ss for less than dealer invoice, the fees sound like bs and if you don't talk to Becky you are making a mistake.
