my thoughts are that i bought the car that i could afford and wanted and will be able to pay off quickly. then in a few years from now when all the bugs are worked out (and my warranty is gone) and I have saved a pile of money that is when i can just buy this kit and get it installed and all will work just right. i'm glad all of you are doing the hard work now for those of us later to just be able to make it work right. so thanks for that!! but over the next few years is when the kits will move big time. that is my thoughts.

Also, are the R&D cost truly that high for the producers that already have a full workshop with lifts, benders, and dyno's (other than the opportunity costs from not being able to work on other cars)? I can have my remote turbo hot and cold piping jigged and ready for mass production by the end of the week for less than $1000 using an external manufacturer. It only took me 2-3 hours by myself to make the cold side piping with very little tools. Using my numbers that I put together to build my kit, the cost for the parts to build my remote kit is $3000 (no tuner). Let say I put 2000 extra into R&D (5000 total). If I sold my kit minus the tuner for 4500-5000, 3 or 4 kits will cover my intial investment. The point is that for guys with reputable shops that already have the capabilities for mass production in house and established parts distributor networks, the costs will be much cheaper. (IPS or any other producers or developers can refute this statement if I am wrong.) In the long term, I can garuantee that IPS, RX, and Adkins, if their respective final products check out and have adequate marketing, will sale at least 20 kits combined and make a profit. The shop that has the pin kit is in the Virginia Beach area but not sure who the owner of the car is or where the car is now.

i'd agree there are probably way more installed than we know about. besides this is hardly the only camaro website out there. and there are probably thousands of people who will buy this car and mod it that will never log in here also. so i would say for a shop with the parts and machinery the inital cost should be fairly low. the next part is really getting the tune down and the kit with all the proper parts and then marketing will be huge after that. they will need adds in all the major car magazines and on all the websites and before long they will be making a profit. with something like this a company HAS to look at the long term and maybe take a loss in the short term.

The shop is called Auto Plus Performance in VA Beach area. Also, Jeff, we need guys like you on these forums to provoke thought and discussion and, your valid points could one day be the deciding factor for some forum reader on deciding whether to buy an FI kit for their v6 or trade up to a v8! A lot of mods that I bought and tried when my car was N/A came from guys similar to you making recommendations or opinions. |
