There was a thread that discussed this, and the verdict (although I don’t think any of us were dealers) was that GM would reimburse up to invoice, but nothing above that.... I just wanted confirmation of this....

....Because it doesn't make since that GM would only reimburse up to an already discounted value!!

.....and why would they come up with a way to give college students a discount.... and then force the dealers to take the hit financially!!

To the best of my knowledge, the "up to invoice" is for GMS/GSU. With regards to the College discount, I have absolutely no idea so I won't speculate. That being said, if I remember correctly the dealer doesn't have to accept any discounts regardless of whether he's reimbursed for it or not.

According to the GM&U discount policy (COLLEGE DISCOUNT) it is the same policy as a GSU discount just for college students

http://www.chevrolet.com/currentoffers/

GM College Discount Program
College students, recent graduates and graduate students,* you can receive the same discounted price GM suppliers receive on nearly all GM vehicles** through the GM College Discount Program. Combine your GM College Discount with most current incentives to save even more. To receive the GM College Discount, register at http://gmcollegediscount.com/ to obtain an authorization number.

^^^ Well, that answers that. No, they don't have to accept it if it's equivalent to GSU. It's a discount that the dealer would be eating some or all of the money on.

^^^ exactly basically it's a GSU discount for college kids but as with any GM offer, dealers can refuse to offer it

Once the car cools off (if ever), it would proabaly be easier for GM dealers to accept all of the programs offered. But, if you have the opportunity to sell a hot car at MSRP, you would be throwing away your small profit (difference between supplier price and MSRP). Every dealer has a different philosophy but for now, I would think there are very few dealers doing GMS, GSU, college grad, military, dog of the month, etc. discount pricing.

So.... is this confirmation that GM will not reimburse the discount to the dealer....

....this is still not directly answered....although it sounds like a "no".

So why does GM advertise it, and not the individual dealers since they are the ones eating it?

My situation was pretty much the same. I got a price quote at the time of order, except I ordered in February, the 14th to be exact. Anyway, my price was $36,230 on my sheet, but my dealer wrote the little disclaimer on mine as well, "subject to actual price on invoice at arrival". RPO, since I ordered before the mark-up, my sticker should still reflect the above price by GM because of the price protection, correct?
