Unless there are physical barriers, painted lined are a 'guide' not an 'absolute'.
Staying within the lines (in the broader sense, too) helps maintain an ordered and
civil society.
THAT being said, not all painted lines accommodate all (larger) vehicles all the time.
(and some smaller one's too; I'm sure I've irked many by parking my MC in a choice spot)

BUT, if one is wont to disregard the lines, one should do it in a manner that causes
least inconvenience to others; i.e. Park out in the back 40.

Nah, I'm not worried. It's parked where alot of people can see it including myself from time to time. I work at a car dealership, everyone knows who's car it is and I have no problems with anyone. There is no reason to vandalize my car. That would be a bad ordeal if I caught them too.

Now let me add a few things. If you look closely at the line to the right, between it and the curb is only a half a parking space...unless you drive a gokart. Now, I could have pulled right up against the curb and someone could have squeezed in....which is what I didn't Want. Also, there are plenty of parking spots available, some even closer.

Guys that added yourself to the list.....look at how far away YOU parked. Your at the end of the lot. That tool parked as close as he could. That's the difference.

Is that a real parking space to your drivers side though? That just looks like maybe a motorcycle could park there .. at work I always grab an end space in the parking garage and park slightly to over the far line ..

I guess if you wanted that spot, you should have left earlier. I could care less how people park as long as they're not going to whack my car doing it. I rarely park close to anything, though.
