Here is my contribution:

Anyone who wants to buy a finished car is not a true car enthusiast, "PERIOD." Any man on this site takes a ton of pride in there Camaro by building it to there likings. No matter if you had a 500whp stock Camaro can you honestly sit here and tell us that you would stop there? I know i wouldn't, no chance... I know you say the ZL1 wasnt available and to get my point across accurately ill point out the fact that your true knowledge is hazy. I say this because there are several other options for you like Nickey perhaps? That would have saved you from posting this thread? Anyways i wish you luck on your journey to 500WHP...

It doesn't sound like you wish me luck....

You are right though....I wouldn't stop at 500 and in fact I don't even think I am going to pause at 500...I think I will just go from 426 to the mid 600 range....maybe take a breath and then work on 700.

That's way more fun than defending my request for a stronger drivetrain from the factory.......how dare I do that.

You guys are right!!

All -

Let us not forget: "The name 'camaro' means 'friend, pal, or comrade' --

Let's take it down a notch.

And HufferSS - I think what people are saying is that you need to turn the 'brash' dial down a few clicks............

I think I need to stick to the racing forums on this site rather than the Do You Wave at other Camaro owners portion.

To each their own....but I do have more than 3 teeth.....I have that going for me.

Yeah, I have to agree with you there! 426 HP sounds impressive, but with the weight of this car pushing nearly 2 tons the performance is ok, but nothing spectacular! The performance of my LS3 Camaro SS is about the same as it was on my '02 Corvette Convertible LS1 (350 HP MN6). 76 HP more on the Camaro and also 750 more pounds in weight!

If you're going to spend all the money to replace every part in the drivetrain so that it can produce/handle over 700rwhp, then wouldn't it make more sense to buy a car at a lower price-range with all the "whimpy" components since they're all going to get replaced anyway?

If Chevrolet produced a Camaro with a drivetrain that could produce/handle 550hp (*cough*ZL1*cough*), and you wanted to push it to 700rwhp, you would still have to replace a majority of the drivetrain.

So, starting with an SS instead of a ZL1 would actually be a more intelligent path to achieve your intended goals.

But to think that Chevrolet/GM should produce a car that will make every single individual out there 100% happy in every way is absurd. Besides, modifying your car to make it uniquely yours is half the fun of owning this car anyway. If we all drove the exact same car, how boring would that be?

The car can run 12's. I'll vouche for that. 12.970 @ 111.61. That was stock.

Now with some SMALL work.. 12.470 @ 116.3

Not sure what else I can contribute here, but for what it is. The 3800+ LB car can move. But some added power is always nice...

I have to disagree. Based on what I saw this weekend of Mecum, there are plenty of enthusiasts out there that still want stock cars from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s......and so on.

But how boring is that to buy a car like this Camaro and then do nothing to it? I mean, what's the point? You really think you're buying it as an investment?

For one thing it's not slow.it's deceptive. Enough said. Check this link out:
www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/.../musclecars-50fast.shtml
May be comparing Apples to Oranges here, but where would the Stock 5th Gen SS Camaro rank compared to some of the greatest muscle cars of all time in the quarter? Always room for improvement but the Camaro SS is not too shabby Stock.

I think it depends on what you're looking for in a new Camaro.

Not everyone wants to set their hair on fire when they hit warp speed........

(.......that's why I don't have much hair, by the way...........)

That's the beauty of Camaro ownership - you can personalize it anyway you want - you start out with a beautiful canvas!
