Hey Gig,

I'm sorry to see that this happened.

I started a thread well over a year ago about what happens when the nannies are turned off. I got slammed and harangued for it by some and supported by others, and laughs from most all of them...

I wish the opening story could be posted, and locked, just for people to read and know what would happen with the nannies off... It's eye opening to say the least.....

I wrote it an an anecdotal representation, and due to all of the bickering and stuff it got shut down...

I can say this comfortably.... (you already know) so this is to all others...

Leave the nannies on. < period, unless you are at a race track or other place where it is safe and legal to perform stunts with the raw horsepower this car has...

Bro, I hope you get your car fixed soon and without difficulty... Keep us informed... It was a pleasure cruising with you guys to the fest... Looking forward to getting all the Texas Folks and others together again....

I'm going to say it... I never EVER .... leave that crap ON. I didn't in my C5 Corvette, I didn't in my C6 Corvette and I sure as he'll don't in my Camaro. I have a 10 second waiting period when I drive:
-start car
-fix iPod
-turn off auto head lights
-hold button for 8 seconds
- RESPECT THE POWER!

Sure, I get it sideways but I guess respecting the car and knowing the cars abilities are paramount.

Glad your ok, the car is an easy fix really. But as FBodFather said... It isn't a cheap one!

Becareful and learn the car before playing with it.

sorry to hear about your accident.... least you're OK.

had a similar one from the other camp last week (but about to join this one... not a TC issue, hydroplaned due to the city not keeping up with maintenance and the meeting of a car heading dead on with a tree... luckily it spun a bit more at the last minute, so it was t-boned by the tree vs, head on). 3rd exact type accident at the same spot in a the last month apparently.

Car was totaled (lot more damage than the pic shows... sad to see it go, but stuff happens).

(again - this isn't necessarily directed at you)- but I continually remind people that it is A BAD IDEA to SHUT YOUR TRACTION CONTROL OFF unless you're on a track. And every time I do, I get a few people who think I'm wrong or crazy or whatever.........

I DO NOT CARE HOW GOOD YOU THINK YOU CAN DRIVE...... the reality is that most of us think we're better than we are. That's why there are these occurrences called "Accidents" -- so please - I'm not saying this to put anyone down or to harangue anyone.....I simply see too many of these incidents happening.....

WHEN it happens - there is invariably an insurance claim - -more insurance claims mean higher premiums - so you are costing everyone more money. Secondly - in some instances, you lose control and not only wreck YOUR Camaro - but you wreck other peoples' cars and trucks ....and/or destroy others' property. And in severe cases, the unthinkable happens.......and you can go to jail for a long time when that happens........

So - please - the Camaro team BEGS you - please - leave the Traction Control and Stability Control ON when driving on public roads..........
This may be one of my favorite posts.

Justin - Glad you are ok and no one was hurt. If there is a positive side your experience may help someone on the fence about turning off the controls on the street, not to do it.

As long as you are ok OP, but did you really say you applied the same amount of throttle you normally do? Come on, brother... You must take off like a bat out of hell from your drive way everyday, if you are slightly applying throttle (even with TC off) you aren't going to go all bonkers... how hard did you REALLY hit it? lol... your neighbors must looooovee you

I agree. Normal throttle, pulling out of a residential street, whether nannies are on or off, you're not going to lose it sideways unless you're on it.
And once you started to "spinout", you back off the throttle and correct. Driving like one should in a residential area on a cul-de-sac, there's no way you're gonna lose it like that.

Anybody ever heard the old saying "You can't fix stupid"?

I guess the old saying is wrong, It looks like the TC and ST buttons in a Camaro actually can fix stupidity. Note to GM: if you can perfect this outside a Camaro you will have solved one of the worlds oldest problems.

One more thing to add to this... Why should it be GM's (or any other car company) responsibility to protect people from stupidity?

All the blame is insane. He didn't crash because he turned TC off. The dude with the Mustang didn't crash because the township slacked on maintenance. Both crashed because they didnt know the ability of the car and were driving too fast or horsing around.

Stop blaming the car (or the township) because YOU screwed up.

You're right, you can't fix stupid but with the onslaught of all the nannies, people think they can go out, buy a 400hp car and drive like they stope it and EXPECT the car to keep them from crashing.

Learn to drive your freaking car. The best way to do do is SLOWLY. Don't expect to jump in and be Mario Andretti the first day. I've been driving performance rear wheel drive cars for over 10 years. It takes time to learn how, what and when the car is going do!

If you do drive the 1LT as stated under your avatar, you don't have one of these two, so it's already off!
