Tune on Automatic can modify torque and horsepower controls built in to protect the transmission. Significant increase in low and mid-range power, I think up to 50 hp.

The mods you listed will do very little to add HP. And GM doesn't have any headers at this time that I know of.

You need to get a quality CAI (cold air intake) like Vararam, CAI, ADM, etc. Then long tube headers with high flow cats. A tune would also be suggested to go with these mods. These mods will give you about 40 hp and make your car noticeably faster.

Hey so if a tune on an auto is worth 50 hp how bout long tubeheaders exhaust with a three in x pipe and cold air intake with tune going to get you.

Do you care about the warranty? If power gain is what you want I would say get, an intake, LT headers and a tune. If LT headers aren't in the cards I would still do the tune and maybe high flow or just delete the cats, but instead of doing headers/exhaust jump straight to a cam. You'll get a WHOLE LOT more for your money. Your engine basically already has shorty headers on it and aside from the cats the stock exhaust flows pretty well untill you get into major mods. If you want it louder you can delete the mufflers and it will still be pretty quiet because of all the BS in front of them. With the stuff you listed (not including a tune) I'm not sure you could even feel the difference.

Around 100 WHP, if the correct combination of parts is used and the ECU is tuned properly.

Thanks for the rply chris b. 100 hp sounds nice for only bolt ons. To the op I would go with an exhaust that you think sounds the best. All exhausts are goin to get around the same amount of hp. Just go with one you like and don't worry about voiding the warranty on simple bolt ons.

If you pick up 50hp with air and exhaust system it will be above 3,500 rpm and gradually increase until it peaks around 5,500 rpm. The tune on the auto may only add 10hp above 3,500 or 4,000 so it would be about 60hp total increase at peak. The tune on the auto mainly affects low and mid-range hp and torque that is limited to protect the transmission.

I did mine in this order:

1) exhaust (mainly for sound)
2) diablo predator (mild performance improvement)
3) vararam cai / vmax ported throttle body
4) custom email tune from 06MonteSS (big performance difference on top of the intake/tb)

Can anyone tell me how much increase I'll have on hp?
PS: I don't have the possibility of a dyno test.
Thanks all.
  • K&N Race Filter = No gain
  • GM performance headers = They don't exist so that'd be no gain
  • GM peformance exhaust = No gain

Um, my reply was like the 4th one in this thread and I basically said the same thing. I gave him a possibility of maybe 5hp or less with all that. I had never heard of the GMPP headers so I didn't comment on those (because it turns out they don't exist).

As for the "up to 50hp" comment that you quoted, I think you took it out of context (although they should have said up to 50 lb/ft of torque, not HP). He was referring to the low end Torque that can be gained under the curve at the low end of an L99 with a tune that includes removing torque management. It has nothing to do with peak gains.
