First Time Buyer: 2011 SS Black

Hey guys, it's coming close to crunch time on pulling the trigger on my first ever purchased vehicle. I talked with my local dealer here in Daphne, AL on the most beautiful black 2011 SS Camaro with the RS package and sunroof. We've yet to enter negotiations but I did ask him to call me back with the dealer's invoice, his bottom line, and int rate. He claimed that particular SS is dealer's invoice of 37,200 and he would sell it to me $700 over invoice. The sticker originally said just over 39k =(. No stripes, no extra, just a sunroof with RS package. He claims it's tough to even bring camaros down by $1000 these days.

Any thoughts? 37,900 before tax for this vehicle seems like I can fight for a much better deal from this guy.

Lastly, I plan on trading in my 2004 Nissan Altima SL that's in fairly good condition. Never been in the shop and never has had any issues. Slight wear, some scratches here and there, and the front right side of the car has a decent sized dent.

Thanks guys!

My purchase, should be taking delivery this week:

2011 2SS/RS Camaro
Imperial Blue Metallic
Automatic
Polished Wheels
MSRP = $38,100.00
Negotiated Price = $35,250.00

You can start ordering 2012's in two days. Why is it hard to discount 2011's right now?

I would talk to another dealer if I were you.

My dad is an amazing negotiator when it comes to cars, I'll be sure to bring him with me. 35.2??? That's excellent BlueDragonVT! This gives me a good idea of what I should strive for!

Thanks, Tiger, I worked hard to get there. You might also want to talk to Becky, she was a huge help for me, and might be able to do better for you than your local dealers.

You can do better. Even if the dealer sells at invoice there is the set back of $700 or so so there is still profit for the dealer. I would shoot for $100 to $500 below invoice.

Sad news for me... It appears at age 23 my credit score was great, but my credit history didn't favor me. He said I just didn't have ENOUGH credit. Definitely disappointing but i'm researching ways I can still achieve this.

I work in credit and finance (not cars in about 15 years but...)...anyway, most lenders look for credit score, length of time on job, length of time at residence, yes or no on home ownership, time in the bureau, income vs. debt, down payment amount, and then there's high credit experience.

High credit experience means you've borrowed at or similar to that level before. If you are relatively new to borrowing / younger / limited credit history.... any of these areas can have an effect on whether you can get a loan or whether or not you can get into that top tier interest rate category.

The other items should be self explanatory.

thanks for the layout Camaroshark, yeah high credit experience is where I thought id get the dagger, and sure enough I did. The dealer said it's a catch 22 in a way, being my age you need good credit and credit experience, yet one of the only ways to achieve this is with a cosigner on this car. Puts people my age in a tough spot.

Terrible Price. I am negotiating a 2011 2SS with automatic and RS package for $36200...Altho that is with USAA discount and credit union membership...You should be able to get that car lower than that. MSRP on a 1SS is $30,945...RS Package is 1300 and sunroof is 900...fees, taxes and tags...U should be aroud 34,000 for that car...
