Well, pretty much...

I've got my car back and have what should be the final intake design on it. I was actually sent home with 2 nearly identical intakes, each with its strong points. The one on the car seems to pull a bit harder at the top end of the RPM range while the other one seems to be a bit better at the bottom end. Both pull harder than anything I've driven with in the past. The one that's a bit better on the lower RPM range doesn't seem to have quite the freight train feeling in the upper RPM range (3500+) that the other one does but throttle response is touchier. The one with the freight train feeling is SMOOTH as can be on acceleration, so much so that I had to get out of the throttle more than a few times because I was going a lot faster than I realized. Don't get me wrong, when I say smooth, it doesn't mean it won't push you back into the seat, the power just builds quickly rather than slapping you in the face and then running out of steam.

Based on data logs, I'm pretty sure the one that just keeps pulling as the RPMs climb will end up being the one that goes out the door. I was sent home with both to provide a bit of unbiased feedback over the weekend since everything is shutdown for the Memorial Day weekend. Unless I run into something or there are actual production related delays, I'm hoping you guys will start getting shipping notices by this time next week...fingers crossed!!

Here are some pictures of the new design. I know it's a bit different than what has been seen so far but I like it. It looks more OEM than the other versions did to me. Keep in mind, the final product fit and finish will likely be a bit better than mine since mine was mostly cut and put together by hand. The only major visible change was the upper filter housing piece, as you can see. The new design allowed for much better airflow and ram air effect than the previous design did. The engine is happier with this setup too. I know some may not like the new look but that's up to you. It works really really well on the road and for me, that's where it matters most.

I'll be off the forum for the weekend to get away for my anniversary. However, I'll work on getting the requested video clips of the car that I'll post up on Monday. Here's to a good weekend for everyone!

In case anyone is wondering about the hole in this picture... (back, right of center)

It serves two purposes. First, it bleeds off excess high pressure that builds up at the back of the intake while at speed on the road. Second, it directs a small amount of incoming cooler air onto the MAF sensor to help prevent or alleviate heat buildup in the sensor plastic itself.

Keep in mind, it's been around 95 degrees here in Houston this week with ambient road temps holding in the 103-108 degree range. Any little bit of indirect cooling effect that helps keep the MAF sensor accurately reading the incoming air temp helps, especially in heat like its been around here lately. Those of you who live where it gets damn hot in the summer will appreciate this little bit of help.

One more bit of info...even with as hot as it has been this week, my car was still holding nearly 24 degrees of timing (at 6k+ RPMs) during WOT runs in 3rd gear. Factory box usually drops off to no more than 12 degrees and that was back when it was only 72 degrees outside.

AWESOME...Hopefully I see a email with a tracking number sometime this week! It does look different but I'm in it for the performance. And mine is being hydro dipped anyway!

Thanks for the long awaited pic and real update rolnslo!

They said white and green were the only colors. Hopefully more later down the road!

I guess the pictures aren't showing what you mean by fit and finish, because I would sport that one around no problem. I am glad they addressed the MAF heat soak issue as I've already stepped into the car after work and had it saying 102*. Is it just a hole, or is there a tube that directs it straight to it?
Enjoy the weekend everybody.

good job ronlslo!! I actually like the look of that intake a little better than the one before. It look clean and different. Almost remind me of my top mount intercooler on my old suby but just way up front. Im glad I waited out for this. 300+ whp should be a piece of cake.

I zoomed in on the pic.'s #2 & 5 and you can see a lil tube leading out of the hole on the backside. It can also be seen without zooming in. I wondered the same and looked for the angel that showed the answer.
