I had a 10 V6 Camaro, traded for an 11 V6 Stang.

My thoughts:
  • Stang's interior is nicer
  • Camaro's V6 engine is smoother
  • Stang's outward visibility is better
  • Camaro's styling more unique
  • Stang is lighter, feels more nimble
  • I miss the Camaro's digital speedo
  • I don't miss the Camaro V6's manual trans (1/2 crunched from day one, but to be fair I have an auto now and the new V6 Stang stick owners are having problems too)
  • Stang's doors are not as long (makes egress a bit easier in parking lots)
....

The talk about weight from an average joe's perspective is so over blown. Put the same gears in the Camaro as the Mustang has and the heavier Camaro will beat it. Mustang was smart for providing that option, it was a cheaper alternative that gave them a slight edge on paper.

Both are nice cars, both have tremendous mod ability but where the Mustang falls short is in Styling. You see this gen of Mustang all over the road and quite frankly it just doesnt look as good as the Camaro to start with.

Putting the same gears in the Camaro would make things worse since the quickest Mustangs are the tallest geared.

The quickest 5.0's are 3.13 auto's and 3.31's in the manuals.

I think most of the former SS owners here who bought the new 5.0 will agree that the "Heavier Camaro" needs more then a just a gear change to "Beat it"

I test drove the 5.0 before buying my SS. I was open to both, having owned an 06 GT which I liked.

I have to agree with the OP. Camaro is the better value and IMO the better daily driver. I would prefer to be running the LS3 in my A6 over the L99. Here the GT's 5.0 wins. But for fit and finish, and what you get for the money, the Camaro won for me.

They would be wrong, the cars are already running pretty similar 40 times stock for the stock and the Camaros are running around .2 to .4 seconds faster with a gear change. You really going to try and tell me a stock 11 Mustang is more then 3 tenths of a second faster then a 10 Camaro?

Plus the Camaro is running 20s and GTs come with 18s or 19s. Like I said in the other post, for average joe's like me the weight thing is blown way out of proportion.

now that some of the RS options are standard, if they make bluetooth and connectivity on the 1SS standard, i would say its the better value for sure

Auto comes with a 3.15 and there are no factory options.

Manual comes with a 3.31 with a 3.55 and 3.73 factory option.

If the more aggressive geared manuals could get traction running stock tires, the quickest times would change.

On Star is a nice feature. the steering wheel controls are nicer. the camaro has a digital speedo display and the 11's have HUD. the Boston sound system in the camaro puts the shaker 500 to shame. and oddly enough even though the mustang i have is far faster than the camaro i had at the track, the camaro feels faster. i feel the mustang has better quality paint. it's pretty easy to see why the Camaro would outsell the mustang if the buyers are doing thorough comparisons. I'm not saying i dont like my Mustang, just relaying my impressions after owning both cars
For me the bottom line is - buy what you want. All of the new pony cars have pros and cons. For me it was the Challenger, wife looked at the Camaro and shockingly bought a Mustang (???). She waited a long time for the Camaro. I was a little disappointed but it was her car. Granted, the shaker stereo doesn't shake like the Boston... Definitely needs a sub-woofer.

Totally disagree. Some of us like to turn in addition to the dragstrip. Drive a 3800-4000 pound car around some twisties. Then drive a 3200-3500 pound car around those same twisties and see why weight is such a big deal...

But a Mustang isnt 3200 to 3500 pounds it is 3500 to 3600. Most of the cars under 3500 pounds are either much more expensive or v6s with closer to 300 to 350 HP, ie the Nissan 370z. You can shave quite a bit of weight off the Camaro with a few mods here and there to get down to around 3600 pounds. Plus I said the average joe, the average driver doesnt go to the strip and isnt an expert at it if they do go now and then so it comes down to ability and mods more then the 200 pounds. Just my opinion.

How you going to drop 200+ pounds off of the Camaro?

Muffler delete, lighter wheels/tires, remove interior, what else????

It starts taking the car out of the daily driver territory....

Removing 200lbs. off the Mustang is much easier.

I think this has been discussed. To get the SS down to 3600 would take a lot.. It would be like me saying to get my 3600lb. Mustang to 3200 pounds with a few mods.. The SS is up around 3900/4000lbs. unless I'm mistaken.
