Look at the edge of the bracket. The one on the left almost hits. On the right ther is about 3/4" space from the frame bar.

OK, thanks, I do see that. Now, if my vert's bracket is angled more inside, rather than outward, would that solve all the rub mark problems? I seem to remember an earlier post that said something about a factory robot putting a bolt in the wrong hole. Could you help me make sure that bolt in my vert is in the correct bolt hole? Is it one of the bolts pictured above? Thanks!

Well, my wife took the car to the dealer for me yesterday. It has the one sorta round rubbed spot on the driver's side. They told her that it shouldn't be a problem but took pictures and documented the complaint. The top has only been down a few times since I left so we'll see what happens after I get home later this year.

300 miles on the car and I can already see the marks on both the driver and passenger sides of the top, also the rub mark that the Tonnau cover makes across the whole top. I received a call from GM about the quality of my car and I told them about the problems with the top. They asked if it was OK for an engineer to contact me, I hope that he does.

When I have the oil changed at 1,000 miles I will bring this up with the local dealer.

For now its off to the fabric store to buy some felt!

I'm in a constant battle myself with the felt/liner issue... while I want to preserve the top, I don't want all the new wear marks that SHOULDN'T be there... I'm holding off on any personal mods to the top- let GM correct ALL the problems and give me a new roof, before I go dumping $$$ into garage repairs on a brand new car... just my 2 cents....

OK, for those of us who are currently or recently acquiring a vert, allow me to try to summarize several related, very important and lengthy threads:

Problem #1--Pinch marks on the top on the passenger more than the driver side just above the windows. These occur rather quickly when top is retracted (top open). They are due to the fabric being pinched between the pointed end of a metal bracket and 2 screws. There is hope that Chevy has solved this by moving the position of the bracket. This must be confirmed by additional new owners. Another solution suggested is fabric protector on the top. Need more feedback on this to be sure it works.

Problem #2--Tonneau cover (if used) causes rub/wear marks across the top of the conv. top as a result of motion between the T. cover and the top fabric when the car is driven with the Tonneau cover in place. The solution suggested is a do-it-yourself fix pending a GM solution which is not yet put forth. It consists of placing an insulating material, such as a towel or fleece between the T. cover and collapsed fabric. Feedback to date is positve on this.

Problem #3--Make sure your dealer installed the 2 bolts that the T. cover clips to when placed over top; otherwise the T. cover may "take flight" when driving.

If I have misstated or forgotton anything of imortance please feel free to post the info. Thanks to all who have contributed!.

Ok I drove my car around 200 miles so far with the top down and cover on. So far I have no marks or any kind of pinch or wear marks. My car was built on march 30th. Maybe everyone can add thier build date to see when they started coming out ok. I will keep a eye on mine to see if anything shows up.

The fabric is actually being pinched by the very edge of the bracket with the two screws on it, not the actual screws, and the metal top rail.

Well, I've been following this thread since day 1 and am pleased that people seem to be getting their issues resolved. My concern (I too have a early production 'vert) is what percentage of people are or are not experiencing the wear marks. I checked mine yesterday at just over 1k miles, perhaps 400 of which are top-down miles and 250-300 of those miles are with the tonneau cover on. I've not spotted any wear marks, though to be honest I could be looking in the wrong spot or simply missing it.

Who here has or has not experienced the weark marks? What's your top up/down milage? Let's see if we can spot a trend and determine if it's all, most, some, or just a few of us experiencing the wear marks.

I doubt we'll ever be in a position where we don't have to worry about it, but I feel we should all check to be sure where we stand so we can get GM on board as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Tib

***VERT TOP BULLETIN FIX RELEASED 6/2***

FINALLY! After nearly 2 months, the people have spoken and GM has listened!

Bulletin has been released for the fix of this problem!

Doc ID# 2668096. (or) Tech Bulletin #PIC5472

I just got off the phone w Suburban Chevy who found the bulletin released late last week. Basically, it calls for the moving of the suspect bracket and repair/replacement of the top!

Let's get these cars in! Finally!
