In other cars that I've looked up that has it, it's about $200.

Well it's really hard to look at what it costs. Most of the time its tied in with a option group.

the replacement cost for the HUD module in a GP was either 400 or 600 bucks. Adding them should not be an issue. I have done several in GP's and I know of a couple in vet's. It's generally about 6 wires then you tap into the databus wire behind the speedo and find an ignition hot. Then you cut the hole in the dash and put the trim piece on. Nothing to it.

Yay my first thread to get necro'ed! While I would have liked to see HUD at launch, I think the DIC does a pretty good job of compensating for it with the big digital spedometer readout. I have it on one of the family's cars and it is a really nice feature. Also that is all most people would use in the HUD anyways.

Don't you also have to change the windsheild? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, there's a special type of film in the glass itself that allows the HUD to be more visible.

As a side note, the new Lexus RX370 or 350 or whatever has an HUD that looks great! Better layout then the Vette's IMO.

Unless its in an option package with other stuff I want, I'll pass even though I think its cool and liked it in my Vette.

I know I am speeding, I don't need it pointed out to me on the windscreen.

Absolutely, and they are not cheap, like $1500.

You don't HAVE to they just make it a little easier to see and reduces the glare of the HUD if you're driving directly in the sun. Factory HUDs is no different function wise from aftermarket HUDs and they work perfectly fine on normal windshields.

They're not that expansive. The special windshield runs about $100 - $150 more then a normal windshield.

I look at it a lot like installing a supercharger without an inter cooler. Sure you can and things will work just fine. But its recommended that you get both.

GP HUD

I really fell in love with the one in my 91 GP GT Coupe. It was by far the most option-packed Grand Prix I had ever seen that was not a GTP package. It would be great to have a more feature-packed vette-like HUD in the Camaro.

Yeah, they told me it had a special "highly polished" region on the windshield to help with daytime visibility. I always had to dim it at night cause it was a bit too bright. I still miss that thing! Wish I could splice one into my 88 Fiero...

There is no need to change the windsheild. On one of the cars I have done there was some minimal ghosting but nothing bad at all. On the other you couldn't tell it wasn't stock. The only difference in the windshields on the GP's was that one passed an optical clarity test and the other didn't. They both had the correct sublaminte layers in them.

The HUD is awesome. I had it in my 05? Grand Prix GTP I would think it would be a definite for this car. No need to look down and keep your eyes on the road I think they should have it in every car.
