Hey Guys. I just recently entered the market for a new car and I have been creeping on c5 for a few months and now that I am about to get a new car I thought i would make an account. I took the camaro v6 (manual) and mustang v6 (manual) out for a spin today so this post is a short introduction of myself and my reflections on these two beautiful machines including my choice for my next car (and I think you all know what I chose
)Me: My name is Austin and I just recently graduated from high school. I have been saving for a few months in an effort to get rid of my rust bucket 90's model toyota celica (for sale btw). When I mentioned to my family that I was getting a new car, my uncle informed me that because his company buys massive amounts of cars from the classic chevrolet here in Grapevine, he can get me employee pricing. Ever since, I have been reading all about the camaro and everything there is to know about its competitors. Fast forward to today, I had already drove the camaro a few times, but not any of its competitors so today I drove the camaro and the mustang back to back so I could really get a feel for the difference between these vehicles. And this is what I found… Test Drives: I began by taking an LS camaro out for a spin. I must say that I absolutely love the interior/exterior of this car; its drop dead gorges. However what I really care about is performance and chevy does not disappoint. Stock for stock the mustang had better acceleration when flooring it in higher gears. But when I threw the pony in a hard turn it squealed like a pig, conversely, a hard, fast turn returned butter-like handling and minimal tire squeal in the camaro. The ‘stang had its perks such as the acceleration, slightly more rear seat room, a better rear view, the cap-less fuel system is cool and it had a 12v port between the console air vents (perfect placement for a GPS). Where the mustang really disappointed me though was the overall cheap feeling of the interior. The stock radio was CRAP, the gauges were disappointing and the shifter had a nasty cheap throw to it (major turn off). The camaro on the other hand had a great smooth, albeit notchy, shifter, nice clutch feel, better stock stereo, cool gauges (LOVE the DIC, pls no jokes). So overall I think the camaro is a better buy as well as the car for ME! So I plan on putting 4k down and making payments on the rest. My discount puts me at a little under invoice for the LS. I’m 17 so the insurance is about $140-150/mo but I make good money doing computer repair and fixing cracked iphone screens in DFW so $500ish for mo payment and insurance is nbd. What do you all think? Thanks for listening guys, and I am ecstatic not just about my new car but also to be a part of this awesome family! |

I Got a LS Camaro when I was 19 and I had to put down about 12 Grand on the price to get my monthly rate around $450 with insurance from USAA so it can be done. I bought my camaro new at 22k. Great car worth every penny. I promise you will not regret your purchase!!!

Austin, CONGRATS, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's and wive's here don't care....and take it easy.
![]() oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!

Good choice! I'm glad you test-drove both...it definitely helps put things in perspective. And THANK YOU on the comment of the Mustang interior. Honestly, I really cannot see how folks think it's nicer than the Camaro's. It (mustang) does appear AND feel cheap to me.

450 a month is with insurance so my payment each month is less than 250, with a 6.9% interest rate. I think that I did pretty good on my purchase. No matter what the price to me this car is worth it.

congrats on the purchase! I love reading these back to back comparisons from real customers. I've never driven both back to back yet.
