Odd XM reception question

I've already complained about my XM antenna losing signal from the weakest things such as trees, and over passes and what not.

Well I noticed something very weird about my XM reception the other day.

(Let me set the scene first) The (T's) are trees....and the line below is the road, and the X is my house. (I live on a nearly private road, so the trees are very, very close to the road)

T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T
___________________________ X

So, if I'm driving to my house with the trees on the left hand side, I lose XM reception.

However, If I get to my house and immediately turn around and leave, this being with the trees now on my right hand side... I do not lose XM reception.

I found this extremely odd. Anyone have any ideas why this might occur?

That is weird... not sure waht would cause that. I lose reception in certain areas in town where there are no trees or anything interfearing. It is always the same area, I have gone back to see if I could find out the reason... no luck.

I just think its weird how it loses it cause of direction of travel.

Makes sense if the satellite is behind those trees. On one direction it's on the left, and the other on the right.

If the Satellite is behind the trees, then no matter what direction of travel it is still behind the trees.

Why would one side of the antenna not pick up when the other side does?

I relocated my antenna into my rear deck, and occasionally lose reception. Basically if their are big trees behind me my XM goes in and out.

So trees and what not do make a difference. Though I can't figure why you would get reception from one side but not the other

I was stuck under an overpass yesterday, waiting on a traffic signal, and the XM signal went out, came in, went out, came in, went out and then came in and stayed on for the rest of the wait. Very odd.

I really think they should integrate caching into their radios and perhaps a short range re-broadcast so that if you lose signal, other vehicles with XM that have not lost the signal could help you maintain connection.

Yeah guys, I don't mind losing signal because of the trees. That is somewhat understandable even though it gets very annoying. I'm just really interested in why one side loses signal when the other side doesn't!

Was it hard moving your antenna do your deck? I saw a thread yesterday with someone asking if it was possible to do with a coupe.
