What parts are needed for transmission swap?
I have been searching around my area for 1998-2002 Camaro Z28's and SS's but, everyone I find is a A4 (automatic). Not that there is anything
wrong with a A4 (automatic) transmission in a Camaro but,I have my heart set in trying to find M6 manual. If I did purchase a Camaro with a A4 (automatic) transmission does anyone know what parts I would need besides the T56 transmission to do a automatic to manual transmission swap in a 1998-2002 Camaro? Just wondering if it is really worth it? |

I'd find (on the internet) a salvage place that specifically deals with f-body (f-birds/camaros) and see if they have a transmission swap package. I know there are several mustang only salvage places in GA that advertise on ebay for the same sort of transmission swaps. I've got a 99 GT that's an automatic and have been contemplating swapping the transmission to manual. The package deal, from flywheel to driveshaft and everything in between, for the 'stang is about $1600 + shipping. But my SS mods come first so not even sure if I'll ever get to do the GT.
Edit: Probably easier to keep looking for a car already equipped with a 6 spd. You may have to extend your search radius but they're out there. A couple of yrs ago I picked up a '97 Z28 6spd for $4400. Wish I still had that car. Last edited by nancygrl; 05-13-2011 at 12:10 PM. |

FBody parts in Pennsylvania should have what you are looking for. Google them.
Top of my head you will need: Gearbox, Pedal assembly, clutch resevour, clutch, possibly driveshaft, center console plate, ignition interlock, computer?, wiring loom for gearbox...seems like a lot of work. Check around for a good 6-speed car.

more then the parts mentioned in this thread to do a T56 transmission swap and that it really isn't worth it unless you're A4 automatic transmission has failed or is starting to show signs of wear and could possibly fail.I appreicate the info guys but,I am going to wait it out for the right M6 car that in the end I will be happy with.I'm wondering though what amount of rwhp and rwtq can the T56 transmission that comes in the F Body 4th gens. possibly handle? Just wondering? Nancy I have been driving a Ford Mustang for fiveteen years and I refuse to invest a red cent into my Ford Mustang unless it is for general maintenance like oil changes etc. to keep it running so,I can trade it in.I excommunicated myself from the Ford Mustang community because of how I was treated by Ford Mustang enthusiasts and also I have completely lost intrust in Ford Mustangs. In my experience I will tell you that the Camaro you have is a better investment to put "mod money" into and has a much better horsepower to dollar ratio then the 99 GT you have.I wouldn't do anything to the 99 GT you have and I would put it into the Camaro definitley because you will be much more happy with the end results. |

It's definitely a tall order when doing any kind of swap in a 4th-gen. I think you'll be happier with your decision to wait.

I'd wait, I've looked into before for my Trans Am and it's not worth the cost or hassle IMO.
