Futile is the word, rear end is BUTT fugly!!

We would be lucky to see a model change in 2015, so there is plenty of time for changes.
But again, lets not rest, we have to hit them when they are down and move the bar even further.

You're asking for a power increase in 2012. When was the last power increase in the Corvette? The Camaro has traditionally carried a detuned Corvette powerplant. There's not a lot of room to deliver a power increase. There's also no reason to increase the power of a car from 2010. If this car suddenly becomes too different in 2012, it ruins the resale value of pre-2012 Camaros because they are less desirable. Unless there is a substantial reason to change engines—major upgrade has been pending, new generation, problems with current powertrain—it won't happen. There are no indications that the Camaro will be substantially changed under the hood until the next generation.

Let's also examine GM's push toward the future. Would you rather have a GM that makes evolutionary changes that year after year improves the same product or a brand that revolutionizes the product each generation, offering a totally new car every few years?

Honda has an evolutionary perspective. Look at the Civic. When a new one comes out, it's still a Civic, just like the last Civic and the one to follow. The recent redesign drew no substantial praise, turned no heads, and made no impact on the automotive industry. It's just another Civic.

When Chevrolet first displayed the new Camaro, it was a whole new car. We begged GM to make it just like that. The concept was so cool that we all stalked Camaro5 for more information until we finally joined. GM is going to have to review the whole look of this car for Alpha because it is smaller. I'm confident that the next Camaro will keep us drooling. For non-enthusiasts, GM wants to make a buzz. When a new model comes out, people come to dealerships demanding it, and that's profitable. It gets press attention, and that's free advertising, which turns out to be profitable. I didn't notice anyone on Twitter or Facebook talking about how great the new Civic is going to be, but that Camaro made a splash!

Basically, GM is still an automotive company. It is going to act like a company that builds cars. It is going to research, develop, test, and produce. For us, that means patience. We won't see everything, but when it gets here, I'm sure we'll be happy. In the meantime, 426 is plenty, and the sales keep coming. I, for one, would rather see Chevrolet focus on the next major upgrade than a marginal change to the current lineup.

I will give them some slack. They're still rolling out new models, and working out new model bugs that Ford hasn't had to deal with since '05. I DO wish that they hadn't canned ABM, they already had it, but they canned it. But that's ok, I have grown to love SW.
And even lighter it is still takeable by the SS. A friend of mine has a 2011 Mustang with the 5.0 and I took him off the line and further 'til I let off. His excuse was all he did was spin. LOL

Now if he can get over the traction issue...who knows?

Exactly! That is probably my one complaint about the Camaro. Where is the nav unit? Will probably go aftermarket for this eventually, but want to be absolutely assured that I won't lose any factory features by doing this.

I'm not sure how you can call them matching (or even slightly exceeding - either way making it a drivers' race) the Camaro's performance "futile."

Matching or exceeding the Camaro's performance means nothing if the public doesn't know about it.

Face it, Ford didn't do enough. GM caught them with their pants down and they made a hell of a good effort. Problem is, they had little to no time to come up with a decent response and the Mustang we have now is the best they could come up with. The exterior refresh was okay, but unless you have the old and new model sitting next to each other, barely anyone outside the car world would know the difference.

There's a reason why Camaro is outselling Mustang by a wide margin...the public simply wants the Camaro more.

i completely agree with the OP. Just because we win on paper, in sales AND in hp, doesnt mean we actually win. They need to get a slight power increase in the SS. the v6 is getting a power/economy increase, which is great. but ford came out with the new 5.0, which basically kicks our @$$. dodge has the new 392 challenger, which i havent seen any numbers for yet, but im sure will be impressive. we need to keep up. as much as i dislike mustangs/ford, and HATE to say this... its a faster car. which sucks lol. im just saying, competition makes better cars for everyone, so why not stay competitive and get a little more hp in the beast that is the SS? just MO

If they change the gearing in the Federally certified drivetrain it would require a total re-certification of the drivetrain. That could cost in the neighborhood of one-half to a million $. Don't think they're going to spend that just to add a different rear gear option, the money could be better spent elsewhere on the platform.
