![]() Mine leaves tomorrow or the next. But they won't get to it till probably next week. So I'll be waiting for your timing chain cover to come off. Whatever your engine failure catalyst was, I'll be able to make damn sure they take care of mine. |

I don't know of you read the thread, but I was one of the first to say out was the one bolt cam's fault.

Chances are nothing. However, it is definitely worth your time to put in a call to them and send them a link to your post on a very public forum showing them the results of a set up with their design. You just never know.

Seems to be a lot of this going around with these cars. Maybe the simple answer is: Don't mess with these engines. They just can't take it.

And yet there are so many more heavily modded LS3's that are just fine. Maybe we should all not even drive our cars since "so many" seem to be breaking.

Going into the internals of the engine and swapping out parts just puts more pressure on the system. So the OEM parts that had problems in the first place (cough*lifters*cough) may break sooner than say if the car was left stock. Once again. Modding does NOT kill engines. |

Three things to do if they pull off that front cover: timing chain (to C5R), oil pump (melling), and replace the tensioner with LS2 dampner.[/QUOTE]
Yup, agree with that - along with: don't raise the rev limiter - unless you've added all the high dollar lightweight parts that can handle it - valves, rotating assembly... Cam swap only with stock bottom end and heavy stock valves - don't touch the rev limiter. There is a reason the LS7 use lightweight valves and rods at 7200. Use matched parts that have been Spintron tested. There is a reason shops like Katech and the Nascar teams and GM... do Spintron testing. The wrong matching of parts can cause strange valvetrain harmonics. Such as not using heavy pushrods when the valvesprings don't require it. Use a 3 bolt cam. Watch the service manual closely on which bolts should always be replaced, and where to use loctite. Reinstall the balancer, with a new bolt, exactly the way the service manual calls for. There are specific step to get it at the right depth using the old bolt, then torque angle final step with the new bolt.... To really put in some quality parts, consider lifters like the Morel big wheel tie bar lifters. Gets rid of the plastic buckets that can be problematic, along with much better construction. Probably a lot more tips out there.... |

No, if you change cam's in the car you have to upgrade the cam and go to 3 bolt cam gear and the LS2 tensioner, You are changing the valve train with this upgrade, The lob's on the cam is different then the one in the LS3, It comes on faster so there is more pressure on all parts so size up all parts to work together.
To do a cam right you need to upgrade all this parts. 1: Cam 3 bolt 2: cam gear (the right 3 bolt) 3: new tensioner (ls2 tensioner) 4: new Timing Chain (C5-R) 5: new Crank Bolt 6: new Pushrods 7: new Oil Pump (High volume) 8: upgrade Rocker Arm's (Trunion Upgrade) 9: Valve Spring Kit (to mach the cam) This does not include the GM Gasket Kit needed and oil and filter, Now that you have pushed you stock bottom end close to its limit the next upgrade is to go forged, look at this pic. |

Still can't believe how incredibly inconvenient the timing was for this failure. I mean, this would NEVER be convenient, but for it to happen that far away from home REALLY makes it that much worse. I was the one that foloowed you guys to Martenrea and I'm glad you got back ok. Still feel for you and I hope your rebuild goes as smoothly as it possibly can. Best of luck and I'll be keeping an eye on your progress.
