Actually we use rail more than truck here. They send them out on the empty rail cars that pass thru back to the docks at the coast. Less road crap and a smoother ride. Faster too!

Well I can tell you from personal experience that my GTO sat at the factory for over 2 weeks, then a month at port (waiting on enough cars to fill the ship). Then it sat in customs/port here for a month and there were another coupld of weeks of various rail-yards in there. Bottom line is some people from even the very first production batch will be a while before getting thier cars.

Who knows, maybe the G8 will become the Impala and the Impala SS with the V8. It's about time for a new Impala platform isn't it?? I got my first speeding ticket in a 1963 Impala in 1972; 85 in a 70 zone outside of Denver. The cop said I was lucky he didn't stop me sooner. We both knew I was doing about 110 a few miles back

No they (we) won't. Canada is not Australia. First off it's just a wee bit closer. Second, last I looked, Australia is not part of NAFTA. Third, the Holden plant doesn't have a CP rail line running through it. Fourth, car haulers aren't equipped to function as submarines but they can easily navigate the bridges at international border crossings. Once shipping begins a week or so from Monday, these cars will show up at dealers rather "quickly"...

I agree....they should be able to get anywhere in the US in 2 weeks or less, depending on how many dealerships they have to stop at along the way.

My guess is anything within 400-500 miles ( a day trip ) of the plant will be on a car carrier; the rest will be rail to distribution points.

I dunno.....don't see many cars being shipped by rail down this way.

You would be GREATLY surprised at how many cars are transported by rail. It's still the cheapest way to transport anything of substantial weight. Most people don't see them on trains simply because we're all so used to seeing them on the road and at dealerships on car carriers. All that happened was the car carriers were loaded at some "local" rail yard for distribution instead of at the factory.

Maybe Turtle will reply. He would know where the distribution points are for rail.

The one that was spotted was just a re-badged G8 wasn't it? It looked good!

The point is that GM will still send the regionally meaning they will build x-number of cars then ship. Then like all thier cars they will more than likley ship them to regional storage lots and not directly to dealers. My point was that there are going to be a couple of stops along the way and the cars will more than likley be unloaded and reloaded onto different trucks a couple of times.

I see quite a few cars being delivered by rail. I live on the other side of the RR track along HWY 90 and get stopped by them fairly often.

Maybe we can split a truckload of Camaros to Wisconsin!!!
What? This is the first I've heard of GM cancelling the Impala SS. Why would they cancel it?
