Exclamation Is it a good idea to preorder the Camaro.

I am thinking of waiting until August to purchase the Camaro. But do you think that that is a good idea, or do you think that I would need to preorder it now to be able to get it because it is such a hot car.

I just preordered one month ago today and I am under the impression I might not get mine till august, its all very confusing. I wish i would of preordered earlier but timing wasn't good for me personally. If you want the car exactly the way you want it prob should still preorder, if your satisfied by seeing which cars dealers having sitting around if they do have any in august then just wait. I'm sure they will have some but might not have your color or trim level desired. No matter how long it takes me to get mine i know its exactly what I wanted. When I bought my civic si I didn't order but i had to call 15 different honda dealerships to find one with options i wanted.

Yeah i forgot about price, thats def another point. You are price locked and there is already a huge demand for this car and it will only get bigger. If the economy turns for the better I'm sure msrp will go up or dealers could put a premium on the cars, some dealers probably already are.

Honestly I'd wait and pick one up off the lot. The Challenger guys who preordered are in a real predicament now. A lot of the preorder cars have not shown up yet, they're locked into MSRP, but could walk onto a lot and get one for EPP+ the past two weeks. Add to this that the plant that builds the Challenger keeps shutting down, and who knows when they'll get their cars.

With the current state of things, I'd wait if it were me. The same thing could easily happen with the Camaro. How pissed would you be if you put a deposit on one "locked in" at MSRP and before you take delivery of YOUR car they're on dealer lots for employee price and 0% financing??

This may be true but thats bc chrysler is having more problems then GM. also if you have a refundable deposit its no big deal.

True. Even if the deposit is nonrefundable, the OP could likely sell his pre-order spot to someone else (preferably at cost rather than trying to make a buck off someone).

What's even worse is that a lot of dealers are still charging $50,000+(!) for the SRT8 even though they're just sitting on the lot now. They can't seriously think these cars are going to sell at that price when 1) the Camaro SS undercuts the SRT8 by $15,000, and 2) $2-3 gas is making a comeback. Chrysler is not long for this world if dealers don't want to sell cars. Case in point:
