Even the safest driver can't compensate for lack of ability to see tail lights being illuminated. It's those exact reasons that there are laws governing how much light must be visible from different distances.

It's not just for your safety but for the safety of everyone on the road with you.

/off soapbox

Wow dude just wow. Stop lights are actually dimmer than my taillights with the blackout. We are referring to the idiots who can't tell when I light goes from off/dim to SUPER EFFING BRIGHT. Those are the idiots who will try and take you to court saying your car was unsafe, when in fact the idiot was txting while driving.

Lens Covers (Blackouts) State law Sec. 547.3215 incorporates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, Subpart B, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, Section 571.108, Standard No. 108; Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment. This standard contains the following:
  • S5.1.3 No additional lamp, reflective device or other motor vehicle equipment shall be installed that impairs the effectiveness of lighting equipment required by this standard.
As a general comment, any device that impairs the required effectiveness of headlamps, taillamps, reflectors, etc is prohibited. The lights, both front and rear, are made by the manufacturer to meet this safety standard. An alternate or additional material, particularly something dark, would impair its effectiveness.

According to the laws posted here, our product is legal. Lights still shine red at 300 feet when the brakes are applied, lights still visible at 1000 feet at night & lights are still reflective just like stock. Whether or not you get a ticket is going be a police officer's opinion. So far in almost 2 years of selling the product only 2 customers have reported getting tickets.

Mine are tinted with Nite Shade spray tint. 3 coats on the tail lights and 2 coats on the reverse/side lamps.

As you can see in the pictures it still reflects out red and at night you can't even tell they are tinted.

I also left my 3rd brake un tinted so everyone can see it.

Cool

This is the static cling material. With the little holes in it. I also have it on my backups, side markers, front turn signals and head lights. At night, you can not even tell it is on there when your driving. I will post pics of the front tomarrow.

I highly doubt the side marker lights are illegal as long as u have the amber in front and red in back.

wow so there are some assholes on here. hahahaha. let me tell you guy. TO AN EXTENT is the tint legal. Just as the guy posted the TRC Codes for texas it has to be visible, if you follow those regs and still tint it to where all those subsections of the TRC code pass than it is not against the law. And let me tell you i have blue halos i am stationed in el paso tx. I have recieved two tickets for my halos. YET i hired a lawyer and got both them dismissed in court Because one it was cheaper to do that than remove them And TWO IT IS NOT AGAINEST THE LAW lol as long as it dont rotate or flash you are good. I have spent hours going over the TRC codes and Federal regs making sure my shit passes. And you can fight shit in court believe me. Some officers dont know their head from their ass and tell you its againest the law when in fact it isnt. Trust me ive met officers like that with my lights and i will argue every day of the week. Thats one reason when im out Id love to be Highway patrol for texas. I know so many laws that its sad hahaha. But yes its not illegal if you dont violate the subsections. And to the ppl that think its unsafe. If you can see the light from a thousand feet and it dont violate the laws and you have an accident with someone that has tinted lights, then you are a horrible driver and shouldnt drive. Now if the tint Exceeds the limit i understand totally.
