Help with new speaker install

I have the Boston premium system. Changing out the front speakers. Just installed one side. Does not sound as good as the Bostons on the other side. Sounds like a bad connection or about half the power. The speakers are Focal Access 165 a1. Supposed to be a quality speaker. Anyway I used the harness and adaptors from ********. Connected it to the wires that went to the woofer, (that is the only place the harness would plug into.) Then took those wire from the harness to the input of the crossover. Double and triple checked all connections and polarity. They all seem good. Do I need to install both doors before I get a good connection or am I not getting full power because I am just coming off the woofer only? HELP!

The change in speaker intensity may be due to the mismatch in the new speakers impedence. Most car speakers are 4 ohm. Ones used by factory systems can be all over the map. This may be the problem.

^^^ That may be it.

Also, I doubt that the BA amp is "powerful" enough for those Focals

I'd change out the stock amp for something a bit better

Try without the crossover from FOCAL. Connect the speakers to original wires in doors. Just to be sure, that the OEM amplifier does not cut frequencies internally.....

Was thinking of doing what zachi3 said. Try to hook it up to the factory wires and eliminate the crossover. Makes sence that this might work. Also Veritasz mentioned that the inpedence is not right. I think Steve at ******** agress with you.

I did email Steve at ******** yesterday. He returned my email quickly. He says that the speakers I installed are 4 ohm and the boston speakers are 2 ohm. Bummer, hopefully he can come up with some type of amp setup that I can affordably get into. Looks like I will not be listening to my stereo until I find a solution. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

On the other hand ******** knew all along that the new speakers DID NOT match the OEM equipment and said nothing when you bought them ?????In my book it says that you were setup to buy other parts from them !

I'd also think before I ran the speakers without the crossover unit. Playing frequencies that a speaker is not designed to play will fry a voice coil, especially the tweeter. I have no idea if the factory amp has internal crossovers in it or if the frequency band is cut by using passive components closer to the speaker. Best advice I can give you is to save up and build the system you truely want.

Guys, Steve did not sell me the speakers. I bought them at Ultimate Electronics when they were going out of bussiness. Got a great deal on them. Although it does not seem that way now. Sorry, I should have said this from the beginning. I just bought the speaker adaptors and the harness from Steve. I should have researched this before I installed them.

I suppose I will have to save up and get the right equipment. Hopefully others won't make the same mistake I did when they go to build thier system. I only have one door intalled now and am not to motivated to install the other side. Although now I know how to get this done alot faster. Sure am glad I bought the plastic pry bars. Quite the learning experience.

I would be hard pressed to find 2 ohm speakers - even the low end of low are 4 ohm. Are we sure this is true?

Thats what the email I got from Steve said. Now maybe the base system without the amp is different. Don't know. Sounds like some people have added speakers without a problem. Its like the premium boston accustics system standard with the 2LT and 2SS package is not ment to be upgraded. I mean without having to buy seperate amps. Hopefully its something GM can look at in future models.
