Has anyone been denied warranty work?
Hi all - I've seen several opinions on whether a muffler delete or mod can void the waranty. My understanding is the dealers have ultimate authority, and most point of views say the warranty will be void only on the part (muffler itself), but not on the engine, transmission, or other part of the car. Has anyone heard of or been through any Actual denials of warranty work? Would really like to read actual examples. Thanks

Basically the way it works is that whatever part is modded (say the exhaust) then the warranty for your exhaust is "gone." If you put in a CAI then your air intake warranty is "gone"
The only way you can flat out void your warranty is with a tune. Tuning the car voids your power train warranty. Notice how I said that modding a part means your warranty is "gone". I put gone in quotes because it all depends on the dealer. My dealer is very mod friendly, so they have no problem with me modding the car and getting warranty work done on it. Now the dealership where I bought my car, they are not OK with modding. So you just need to find a dealer that is OK working on a modded car. |

well of course there are people here who have been denied, they had had modded there car a lot more then a muffler delete. you are right dealer ships have the ultimate authority, but there are going to use common senses more the most part. you are safe with a muffler delete. it is very minor.

No warranty denial but my dealer promised me a free first oil change recommended at 5k miles. I bought the car 18 months ago and only have a little over 5k miles on it. After the car was one year old with 3,800 miles (12/09/10) They sent me a letter that the free first oil change time expired when I was never told it had an expiration date. At 5k miles I took it to my local service shop owned by a friend instead and had them do it for $100.00 using Mobile1.

THanks all - Yes, looking for actual cases. I've seen the various debates in the forum, so wondering if this has actually happened. Glad that it looks like a muffler mod is minor. Haven't found any examples yet of actual denials (except for tunes), so hopefully it's rare. Thanks,

You could also go talk to the service manager at your dealership about the mods you want to do and see what he will and won't work with you on.

I went to my local Dealer and talked to the service manager, very nice guy he said to have fun with my car, exhaust, CAI, even "Factory Headers" I don't know if he meant GMPP, didn't really make sense but he OK'd the exhaust and CAI and said it was perfectly fine, so I had the Exhaust put on the next day. I've only seen stories of people with CAMS and Tunes that have issues with Warranty being Denied, it's pretty simple if you tune the car your warranty is gone no questions
