You are missing out on a lot of fun. Try a 5th to 2nd shift at 60mph. It's better than your favorite rollercoaster.

Forgive me if I'm not understanding your reply, but it seems as though we're talking about different things. It seems as though you're talking about downshifting for engine braking, since you mention "brakes are cheap." We're not talking about engine braking, we're talking about downshifting to get the revs up and get into the power band, so you can pass people or just to have extra acceleration for whatever purpose. Two completely different things.

I agree that with the Brembos these cars come with (the SS, that is), engine braking is probably not worth it that much. I would definitely rather change a set of brake pads, instead of a clutch or drive line parts. But kicking it into a lower gear, rev matching, easing out the clutch, and giving it gas to take off quickly to pass a slowpoke on the highway is something completely different than downshifting to use engine braking to slow down.

Yep I dropped it from 6th to 3rd going about 70 and it was fun lol. My shifting isn't as smooth as I'd like it to be but it is starting to come back to me. Hopefully I can get done playing so much and start asking quesitons like shifting for gas mileage.

please explain... This does not compute...

Gas mileage is for a Prius, not for fun... Camaros are fun...

Lol. Well I'm going to have to start having fun in moderation and not getting up to the speed limit as fast as I can from every stop. And I'm really curious if I can see that 28 mpg on at least one tank.

Go to the top of pikes peak, turn around, head down, put it in third and only let the clutch out to slow down, heck you'll probably hit 50 + mpg...

Actually, I don't know how many miles you have, but after about 3000 I was getting 26 on the highway, with no hard acceleration...

That's a thing of the past... I still get about 23 on the highway when I keep my foot out of it, which isn't often, but occasionally... Like today driving from just south of Austin to Corpus Christi...

Overall, the feel will come. All in time... all in time.
Seat belts will keep you from eating the steering wheel during times like that...but it doesn't help the guy behind you... Ouch...

Alot of times when I downshift one gear like from 6 to 5 I don't get the power I want to really pass someone or to just feel that power but other than getting on it too much I'm a little tentative with this thing so I'm afriad to just downshift two gears. But when I do get that power wow this thing packs a punch and I'm surprized at how much more power this has than my 98 v6 firebird that I just upgraded from. I still like my firebird and I thought it packed a good punch for a v6 but I am wowed by this camaro and I didn't expect as much of a difference. I'll be fine once I get used to it but any advice on the shifting?

Beleive me after driving the car a while you will know exacly where to place the shifter judgng by the cars speed.

It depends on if you're after fuel economy or you want the kick in the pants.

I rarely use 6th, unless I'm on I5 doing a long drive on cruise control.
