Good luck with that because they did the same thing (both sides) with my Camaro last year and it did not change a thing. I truly hope it helps your situation, but if it's like mine, it won't.

FTLBS, here's hoping the new parts resolve the issue for you. If any of you would like to get into contact with our Customer Assistance team let me know and I'll get you all setup. Also if I come across any new documents in regards to this issue I'll make sure to let you know.

Dealer called late yesterday afternoon (Thursday) to say that after changing the left upper strut mount the sound is still there. They talked to the engineers at GM who advised them to change the left front strut. The strut should arrive today (Friday) and be installed by close of business.
The good news is they didn't try and pass it off as fixed when it wasn't. The scary news is that they might not have a fix. If that is the case then I'll have to get another car. I don't care how much I love the new Camaro; I cannot drive a car that sounds like a piece of junk every time I hit a bump on the road. I wouldn't accept it from a $4,000 car and I certainly won't accept it from a $40,000 car. |

Changing the strut did not correct the problem, however, the tech did identify what he thinks is the issue; the STEERING RACK. A new steering rack has been ordered and the Camaro is available for pickup and use while waiting for the part.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR TECHNICIANS: According to the service manager, the sound is not reproducible when the suspension is not under load. This could explain why it is so hard to diagnose on the lift. I will update this blog when the part arrives. |

I cant say for sure, but for me the sounds only happen when the wheel is turned (making a right or left hand turn). I can go over the same bumps without turning and no unusual sounds. Perhaps something can move in the steering rack when the wheel is turned?

Mine clunks when I back down the driveway turning the wheel to the right. I feel and hear it in the floor.

FTLBS, I hope this is the last part your vehicle needs to resolve this noise for you. Let us know how it goes for you. Thank you!

I had the same noise, worse after I installed the Eibach Pro-Kit. I tried everything too fix it and couldn't quite put my finger on the noise. I tightened the top of the strut cap with an impact gun and then re-installed the strut in the car. Then I put the top strut cap on and tightened the top nut with an impact gun. After that, I checked and re-torqued all suspension/steering components including the new sway bars/end links. Put the car back on the ground and drove on the bumpiest road I could find......end result noise GONE. That was well over 3000 miles ago and still no problem. A lot of guys and technicians will tell you not to tighten strut mount with impact when in fact I still believe the clunking noise is from the strut not being secured inside the strut tower and the clunking noise is the strut hitting the strut mount on the underside. It worked for me maybe you will get lucky as well, just a thought.....

Still thumping away. Getting kind of loud. Annoying as all hell. If i were a new buyer and were test driving the Camaro comparing it to other cars of it's caliber and was not biased towards either car, I probably wouldn't buy the Camaro after hearing the noise. That's just a deal breaker for me to hear your car CLUNKING before even buying it. Scary...to think about how many sales GM has actually lost due to the embarrassing clunking sounds the strut makes...
