Just Installed the New Steering Wheel (OEM Leather)

Decided to install my leather wrapped OEM steering wheel I got from GM parts house today. Really simple install, the only thing that worried me was the airbag but all went well. Now I just have to have the BMC (or whatever) reprogrammed so the audio/phone controls work. The hardest part of the install was getting the front of the steering wheel to pop off (the part with the air bag) and even that didn't take long.

Old one:

New one:

The new controls I have to have programmed :(

Very cool. What was the material of the other one? I've just realized I've only ever been in either a SS or a V6 that has the RS package so it had the leather steering wheel.

Sweet what did you guys get? Or is it a surprise? What time you guys doing it and where? I can probably help except around lunch time. Fair warning when you do it, my car wouldn't start the first few tries but after that it was fine, I think it was just because the battery was disconnected so long and it resets or something. Been fine ever since then.

The other one is just like plastic. Not very nice haha. To get the leather wrapped wheel on my 1LT/RS I would have had to upgrade to Convenience and Connectivity package.. which for me wasn't worth the $900.

Josh has a leather/alcanatara wheel from ACE. I have a leather/carbon fiber wheel from DSV. ElManny is coming up after work to help out, but he won't get up here until about 8.

Ahh sweet, I'm jealous lol. Yeah the process is fairly simple, you can probably do it without me but I would love to just see all your cars anyway.

Yeah not sure the exact reason. All the electronics worked the car just would not turn over. I was worried for a second. It took me a bit longer because I was short a tool and had to go grab one. Good thing I had an extra car at my house

The whole process should take about 40min, only because I let the car sit with no power for 20min just to be safe with the air bag. The actual steering wheel swap is super simple... if you have all the tools ready.

Thought I would update this thread with how the programming went at Boardwalk Chevy. My car did not come with the connectivity package so when I put in this steering wheel the buttons on the right side would not work (which I expected). So I took it to Boardwalk Chevy to have it programmed, and that went great. It is expensive as they charge a $150 for a normal re-flash/programming, and then the GM Techline is about $100. So a total of $250 to have it programmed. More then the OEM wheel itself. I am happy with the it though and really enjoy the new wheel!
