Performance exhaust not loud exhaust
I've been thru pages on this forum and mindboggling at the threads on exhaust options.
I'm looking for better performance at a reasonable cost for my 2010 2LT V6 automatic. Only engine mod so far is a K&N CAI.Cutting to the chase, what product(s) (headers, C-back, A-back, or combination) offers the best boost w/o the loud? I would enjoy a change in sound, but I don't want the dB. OK I'm a dork. |

If you want quiet, yes. The cat backs all add more noise from what I've heard.

Prolly true. My set up is louder than heck when you get on it. I have a full cat back exhaust but i'm also running LT headers which does not contribute to the quiet I'm sure. But I dig it and I'm 45.

Magnaflow street series is a nice upgrade without getting to loud. Some say its barely louder then stock.

you said resonable cost, so I'm guessing you may not want to spend a bundle, so headers + exhaust may be out of the question.
But you want performance without the loud. In my opinion, almost no exhaust alone gives much in the performance spectrum. You may notice a bit more pull in the mid-range, but honestly now that you have a CAI which does more for performance than exhaust, you may notice almost no change no matter what exhaust you get. JBA, Borla, and Magnaflow axle-backs are what you'll be after. They will all give a refined but lower tone than stock ...louder db than stock but not overly loud. MRT 2 might be a good choice as well, but I read the in-cabin drone is slightly more with this exhaust and it does get loud when you step on it (which...maybe thats what you want!?) One thing about the MRTs, most people seem to like them a lot, but they are louder than the above three. You may also consider going with shorty headers. This will defintely give you more of performance boost than exhaust and would probably enhance the stock exhaust nicely. They'd also pair up with the first three I mentioned above and still keep the noise level to a minium. So either spend about 6 to 700 for shorty headers (thats my educated guess price with them installed) or anywhere from 4 to 700 for an axle-back exhaust that will probably give zero to minimal gains. Do one or the other, and down the road you could add the other.

So, I'm a bit confused. I thought the performance axle-back exhaust systems were more free-flowing than stock, especially mandrel-bent systems. Is it worth it performance-wise to get just that, or do I have to change the headers to get more power?
BTW, I've been looking at the JBA performance exhaust http://www.autoanything.com/exhausts...0A3228911.aspx seems reasonable at $469 for the parts, but can be talked into alternatives. |

I just got my JBA system and I love it! I debated what exhaust to get for over a year and this is what i chose. It kinda has a exotic stock sound but a lot more deeper and has a little rumble... Performance wise I was blown away. I haven't seen any HP numbers, but I feel them. I got them from Late Model Restoration for $499 shipped and they came in no time. I'm very satisfied with my decision. Heres some pics of mine, I haven't made a video yet... videos do not do any exhaust justice IMO. Hope this helps http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151760 |

go look at the sticky at the top of this section's page, about exhausts. It has links with info and lots of videos about many systems. You'll learn about a lot of them, and HEAR what a lot of them sound like.

I think you will be happy with that, will have a nice tone.
Will be curious on your thoughts for performance.
