There is no way that the base price is that low. The difference between the ZL1 motor and the SS motor is $10k + in itself...

Like several of you, I too have dealership connections (I used to be a new car sales manager) and I told someone I would order today if the ridiculous number he said would be true. He was initially saying that the base would be in the twenties, which is of course insane. He did go to the owner to get his facts straight and came back and said preliminary info given to the dealers was $38k base; now who knows how "base" that will be. I believe I read something along the lines that we would be pleasantly surprised at where the ZL1 would be priced (I don't have the energy to try to look that up right now), and in it's history, the Camaro has always easily been #1 in any bang for the buck discussion so I see no reason why that should not continue to be true. The other part of this debate is why in the world would GM price the top Camaro in Corvette territory. Don't get me wrong, I have had 2 Camaros and loved them both, but for equal money I think the Vette would be the choice of the majority of buyers - likely not the majority on this forum, but the majority of the sports car buying public. There has been lots of talk of $50k plus for the ZL1, and while I don't doubt that is what dealers will be asking, I do doubt that is what pricing from GM will be.
Just my 2 cents... |

Sorry it seems that way. We really aren't about being pissy. That number was just so far off that it seemed like a joke. I honestly thought you might be pulling our legs at first. If ZL1 comes in at even a few hundred less than GT 500 while beating it in HP, the quarter and 0-60 times, our sales will rip the pony a new one - even worse than we already have. Marketing wise, it's all about the balance point. That fulcrum is maximum profit, and on one side of the see-saw we have the profit margin consideration, which will push price up. On the other side of the see-saw we have volume, or number of units they can sell. This pushes price down because you will of course sell more units at lower prices. . :seesaw: Making a great product and generating interest in it are also considerations, but as far as pricing goes, that balance between volume & profit margin will be the primary deciding factor. There is just no logical reason to sell at 43k if they can get almost as many people to buy at 48+. That's before you even consider the price of the building it. This tech doesn't come cheap. That factor is what will probably push the price slightly past the GT 500 base price & up closer to the GT 500 with Track Pack price. All that put together is why most people are guessing just under 50k. So there's my reasoning. I'm glad you're excited about ZL1. I'm super excited to see what a beast it will be, and I believe it will be worth every penny when I wave at my GT buddy in the rear view mirror. ![]() .

then you have to take consideration of all the dealers doing the "fair market value" thing... it might say 48k on the sticker but all the sudden you see they are charging 52k!! remember when the 2010's came out???? they where charging 5-10k just because they could!! dealers are not going to get many of these so why sell it the day it comes in??? nope... they are going to put an idiotic price on it for 3-6 months then if they dont have any takers they will sell it close to MSRP

That number sounds pretty close to what Dealer Cost for a very basic ZL1 might be...+ Freight + Market Adjustment + Muskeg Injury Fund + Moose Insurance +... BTW, tell him to stay away from Gore Bay Ontario...the moose-goring Capital of Canada. |

One thing to remember, he said "BASE" price. If you look at the 2SS models, Base was about $3000 or so under the "loaded" 2SS so with a "base" ZL1, who knows what it will have and then if you throw in the GM discount and any other "discounts" I could see the "base" price be that low and I know that he said, "A LARGE DEALERSHIP". Larger dealerships do get more allotments for these cars than the "smaller" dealerships that will more than likely mark up the prices because they woun't be getting as many ZL1's to sell and they will gouge the people that get them!!!! Just my 2 cents on the price thing but thanks for any info as to when you can actually order and delivery dates!!!

Even large dealers are not going to be getting that many at least not in the beginning. Just talked to my dealer the other day and they are only getting two to start off with. Just have to see how things go next year and keep our fingers crossed. |

I would be willing to bet that information is also off. Im pretty darn sure they have not released any allocation information as of yet. If they had one of our Camaro5 dealers would have been all over it! |

Just going by what they said, they were one of the very first if the not the first to get a 2010 SLP which was written up here on the Camaro.5 forums way back when. They sell alot of corvettes and camaro's and normally have like 25 to 30 of each. I'm not disagreeing with you I was kinda surprised when I heard this myself. I had just seen the ZL1 in Frederick the other day for the first time, so I went to see my dealer later on that day. |

Lets hope so.
At that price I can pay to have the pistons/ rods replaced with forged pieces so I can really turn up the boost and still be cheaper then a GT500 PP. $44k for the auto would be even better. I just hope the IRS can survive dead hook's with 800hp since it will be so easy to get those sort of numbers with the right set of pistons and enough boost. I'm getting so impatient but good thing come to those who wait and by the time the ZL1's are on the streets we should have a good idea of what the next SVT/GT500 will be so I can make the right decision with hopefully without any regret. Either way its gonnna be putting the hurt on a lot of bolt on ZO6's

And with regard to a ZL1 base price of $43,000, Scott Settlemire already indicated that the C&D reported base price of $47,000 was not going to happen (see www,notgoingtohappen.com), and I don't think he meant for us to take that to mean that the price was going to be less than $47,000. It takes a little common sense to obtain a reasonable estimate for a ZL1 price. We know the price of the 2SS, and we know the price of the GT500, the ZL1s stated competition, and we know a lot of the features that the ZL1 will have, LSA, Magnetic Ride Suspension, PTM, Dual Mode Exhaust, Gen 2 Goodyear F1 tires, etc. Given those pieces of information I think the likelihood that the ZL1 will have a base price of $43,000 is about the same likelihood that Jim Morrison and The Doors will be playing tonight at the Whiskey.
