I knew I had coming what many of you are saying to me. I felt it must be said though because there are too many people who don't look at this objectively. Remove your devotion to GM and pretend for one second you don't work for them.

Then you just might understand why GM has the perception it has all accross America.

I sorry if I don't agree with the people here, but if I were to take my rants to a forum where everyone agreed with me than that would be like preaching to the choir.

And I think some of you conveniently pass over the many times I've posted I'm actually buying a Camaro.

I think all this waiting is driving everyone crazy. I nominate this thread as the Flame War Thread of the Month. It will go into the collection of past Flame War threads, including such classics as:

-Strip Length
-CGM
-Why no HUD?
-Why no Nav?

And of course, everyone's favorite: ABL.

I can't wait till people start getting their cars so I can look at some sweet pics and maybe a track or 1/4 mile vid or two. And I can't wait till I get my car so I can fuel it up from the wrong side, look at the half assed ABL, look at how ugly the shark fin is and still have a HUGE smile on my face.

Keep on keepin' on and lets try to keep this train on the rails for 1 more day

I saw two Camaros yesterday at the KC auto show, it was my first time seeing and sitting in them.

The exterior is a home run. Visually stunning, lines flow smoothly, a very very nice looking car.

The interior? Not so much. A dissapointment to me....and I have owned three Camaros. I was really disappointed with the layout and the quality of the interior....is it a show stopper? No....not until I see the 2SS interior....hopefully it is better. It looked gaudy, and some things looked out of place...like the emergency brake handle.

I compared it to the Dodge Challenger....and I must say, IMO the Challenger interior works better for me. I did drive the Challenger R/T, and while it is certainly powerful, it felt oh so heavy. I hope the SS feels a little lighter on its feet.

Anyway, it will be a very tough decision for me...Camaro or Challenger. Very, very tough.

The challenger interior is very gaudy.... actually IMO it can't be any worse. Dodge has always had a plasticy interior to me, i owned a 03 ram and it looked cheap.

And if 90% of the time I spend with the car gives me the impression of cost cutting, poor quality, low durability, and discomfort, I won't be happy.

For any that are having feelings like this, I think the bottom line is to wait until you get to test drive YOURS before making the final judgement. Then, and only then, should you determine whether or not GM has lived up to what they promised in YOUR 5th gen.

BTW, don't forget to stick your foot into the accelerator and rail a corner so that you know what really makes this a quality car.

I drive the exact same car you do stovt (a 2006 Cobalt), and honestly, while the interior does seem a bit cheap to me, it's never disappointed me to the point where I felt depressed or sad to be in the car. It's not even an SS, just an LT, but I think it's a fun little car, the interior looks sporty to me, and it's comfortable, which is most important to me. The only complaint I'd put out there is that, like someone said, where my body touches should be comfy, and the door armrests are a little thin and hard, but still not so much that I hate driving it. I really like my car and I feel I got what I paid for, so I'm confident I'll feel the same way with the Camaro, even if the interior is plastic. It's not for everyone though, and at this point, unfortunately for those who dislike it, the only way to change it is to go aftermarket and have a custom interior done. I'm sorry the car isn't everything everyone wishes. That would be truly awesome, and I wish everyone enjoyed the car as much as those truly happy with it. But compromises had to be made for various reasons, and I still stand by the statement that we're getting what we pay for, and it's a very good deal.

I think the response to someone who has an issue with the interior is NOT wait till you test drive it and be sure you put your foot in it. No one hee is questioning the ability of the car to go....ps @ optimus prime, I think fastball and I have been very mature in our opinions not one mod has said anything to us. So if you don't like what we said oh well. @ fastball don't stress man thats the way zealots are

Just want to say one more thing about this...

No car is perfect... not a cheap $14,000 car or an overpriced $150,000 car, someone, somewhere will have issues with it.... I say take the car as a whole and judge it on total merit and quit nit picking at the small stuff..
some of you people are just out of touch with reality.. Have you ever owned a perfect car? I highly doubt it...
It's human nature that some people like some things more than others and what one person needs to be perfect another person could care a rat's behind about.. It's all a matter of taste.. and if you don't like the taste of this car there are other people that do... I bet there are some people that eveh hate the soft touch stuff and would love to go back to METAL dashboards... but for safety reasons that will never happen.....
Ant that is my 2cents and the last I will say on this subject.

Thank you. It goes along with what I think one of our founding fathers wrote, and I do appologize I don't remember who it was or the exact quote, but it went something like this:

"The truest form of patiotism is to never let your government get too comfortable"

and attacking a GM person over something you dont like is NOT patriotism its you being petty. Just because you dont like where the gas cap does not give you right to hold a thread hostage and complain about a car as a whole. Fbodfather tried his best to explain to you why certain things are they way they are and you just totally ignored him and ask stupid questions, like if he knew about certain features of other cars. Using your government analogy you just threw out it would be the equivalent of you going back in time and asking george washington if he had even considered how the french run their government because you think its cool.

I'm sorry. I don't think "immature" was the impression I was trying to give, just that it's poor debating. Somehow, you both have gone from "I don't like the interior" to "GM is failing because of this". You sort of turned something relatively small like the Camaro's plastic interior to the ultimate failure of a company. Again, I can appreciate that you don't like it, and sure, a lot of us would like a nicer interior, but we either spend several thousands more on the car, or we keep it as is and get a performance bargain, not to mention our beloved Camaro that we have waited almost 9 years for. So I'm just saying it sounds like you're turning your own, individual, personal (you're one person out of many, like it or not) dislike for something about the car into a monumental reason why GM will never make it and the car will have poor sales. No one can predict the future, either of GM or the Camaro, and while we can be certain that not everyone will like the Camaro (the sales would be nice, but the roads would become rather boring as well, not to mention healthy competition keeps things going), a plastic interior doesn't guarantee the car won't sell. Period.

I think you both have really overexaggerated my criticism as if I'm some 19 year old ricer. I have been professional, stated nothing but facts and truths, and never once did I attack Fbodfather or Number3 personally - I only state objective ideas to support the truth.

One of my past times is reading in depth about all the different car companies, not just in the States but companies all over the world. Any chance I have to drive different cars I take it. I just love cars. Not any one specific either. If I was a millionaire, I would have so many different cars from different vintages in my garage I wouldn't be able to drive the same one twice in a month. I love the high reving whail of a well engineered Japanese 4 cylinder at 8500 RPM or German inline 6 at 5000 RPM as much as I love the grumble of classic American small block muscle at idle. There's the low end torque that will pull you into your seat with American V8s, but there's also high reving power of Japanese and German engines that will do just the same if you know how to drive it. The most fun I ever had driving was on a track with a Honda S2000. The most fun I ever had at a streetlight was waving bye-bye to a prick of a kid in a riced out Honda Civic Si in my cousin's Firebird Formula. My experiences have left me with a very open minded and broad view of how a car should be made today. Trust me, there's plenty of criticism for them to go around as well..... don't even get me started as to why Honda refused to make a RWD V8 engine, especially for the Acura line.

Maybe I want to have my cake and eat it too. But not once have I said anything personal to anyone here. I have kept my arguements objective and backed them with facts. Besides, I give plenty of credit where it is due. Just go read the thread about the open letter to the Oshawa employees before you criticize my comments one more time.

Take off the blinders and you might see. I want GM to get out of the mess they are in as badly as anyone else here, but drinking coolaid and living with the status quo as if it is "good enough" is NOT the way to do it.

You know what the common thread is between all World Series winning general managers is? When they think they have enough pitching, they go out and get more pitching. And when they think they have too much pitching, they find a way to get more pitching.
