Barret Jackson Auction Help

Well my dad is turning the big 50 this year and im thinking of flying him and my mom out to the Barret Jackson Auction in September for Las Vegas. Never gone to Vegas before and just looking to have the best time. Any pointers you can give me on where a good place to stay is that is close to the Auction and other things that I should look into. Have no idea what to expect so any help would be appreciated.

Yup, agree. Unfortunately all the hotels jack their rates up during the weekend - it's dirt cheap during the week..

Awesome gift...

Go to the Hoover Dam 45 min ride, Red Rock Canyon 30 min drive, and Pawn Stars 15min drive.
They also have a drifting and exotic car driving school at the Vegas race track.
Also rent a cool car while your out there. Almost anything you can think of you can rent. From a Viper to Lambo.
The dune buggies in the desert is alot of fun also.

Just remembered the Shelby Muesum at the track. On Thursday's they give tours of the assembly plant. They are building old cobra's and the new 2012 GT 350 currently along with some super snakes.
If you love muscle cars no matter what make it is you will enjoy it.

Love VEGAS! Been there too many times to count.

1. Fly out of Buffalo. Way cheaper than T.O. Not too much longer of a drive for you.
2. Stay on the strip. Mandalay Bay is great but stay at either New York New York or Monte Carlo. Rooms are about the same but NYNY and MC are cheaper.
3. Bring good walking shoes as you aren't going to drive anywhere on the strip unless you want to spend your vacation in traffic.
4. Take a shuttle from the airport if you have more than 4 people in your group. If you have 4 or less, a taxi is the best way.
5. Take a taxi (or your rental) to one of the two gun ranges that let you fire fully automatic weapons. I would recommend the Las Vegas Gun Range & Firearm Center. You can shoot a Desert Eagle .50 pistol (it's ridiculous waste of money but it's really cool). They let you take pictures of each other in the range so bring your cameras.
6. Restaurants. Well, you can basically get anything you want, from a $35/oz. steak that will make you cry it is so good, to an all day pass to buffets. If you want, I can recommend some places if you let me know your price range and type of food you like (except for seafood, my wife has an allergy so I can't recommend those places).
7. If you are going to a show, hit one of the 1/2 price ticket booths on the strip.
8. Hit the Bellagio for the Conservatory and the fountains. Hit the Mirage for the Volcano show. Hit TI for the Pirate show. All free and all best seen at night except the Conservatory as it is inside the Bellagio.
9. Don't do the NASCAR simulator at Sahara. Took our niece and nephew over Christmas and the equipment is in need of a lot of maintenance. They enjoyed it but it would of been a lot more fun if they worked properly.
10. Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon are both cool but I would only do them if you have a rental. I haven't tried the helicopter tour so I can't comment on that.
11. If you plan on heading downtown, do it at night so you can see the overhead laser/video show.

This is all off the top of my head. I've probably missed a couple of things. If you need more ideas, let me know.

Don't pay for a taxi if you're going to a strip club...the drivers get paid to bring you there :-P

Stayed at the Bellagio and NY NY. Loved them both but the Bellagio is best- We asked for a room with a fountain view and got it. The buffet is to kill for. Don't forget to bet on 17-black. MGM across the street is old but has cool animal show. The drive out to Hoover Dam is the best.....
Vegas is a great place to visit.
