went looking at Camaros yesterday, HOLY CRAP!!

Some of you may remember that a while back i traded my 2010 SS in on a 2011 Mustang 5.0, well I'm getting married in a few months and my Girlfriend and i were talking and decided we were going to need another new car. I innocently suggested that maybe she could have the mustang and i'd buy another car for myself. she liked that idea and so i went out looking at 2011 camaros. i was floored to see that both local dealers are charging 10 grand above msrp for these cars. I laughed at em and said there wasnt a snowballs chance in hell that i was gonna pay even MSRP not to mention some market adjustment. the salesman said that wasnt set in stone and i told him i wasnt even willing to buy from them at all now. essentially they are willing to bend somebody over as long as they dont know they are being bent over. i dont like dealers who operate like that.. anybody know a dealer on the west coast who sells at invoice or slightly above?

The buyer should do their homework. It's not the dealers fault for selling to an uniformed buyer. They are in business to make money not friends just like most places.

so if the buyer isnt informed it's ok for the dealer to take advantage of them? sorry but i dont feel that way and would NEVER treat any of my customers that way. no wonder some dealers have bad reputations. by your logic i could add 5 grand to the cost of a HVAC system above and beyond what a normal cost would be and if the customer wasnt aware then it's ok..

I did not say that it was the right thing to do but it happens. In all honesty though if someone is looking to make a large purchase they should really do some homework.

I guess it's the laws of supply & demand in play here...in your local area they justify it by people willing to pay over MSRP in return for convenience.

Sure, you could pay less, but this likely means traveling out of your region to get it. You could have smart buyers, but those overcharging dealers are banking on the impulsive buyers.

Bingo!

I would sell my 2SS to someone who really wanted it and was willing to pay more for it than it is worth.

BTW, Car Dealers are not the only business that take advantage of customers. Check out the following:

1. Pawn Shops
2. PayDay Lenders
3. Utility Companies (ever calculated the late payment fee?)
4. Credit Card Companies
5. Wireless Companies
6. Insurance Companies

The list goes on and on.

if you're a member of usaa or aaa, go to their website and they'll list the dealers there that have to give you a discount below msrp. they'll even list all the add-ons each dealers has.
i saved $1,200 with usaa.

Right now you can walk into the dealer and ask to pay $500-1000 below invoice and they will take the deal. I just got a great deal on my 2011 ss.

I got the same thing from several dealerships attempting to sell these at way above invoice, just keep looking and you'll find a dealer that will work with you. I visited 5 dealerships before I made my purchase.

Like someone said earlier, get in touch with Becky. I bought my Pace Car from her and I live in PA and her dealership is in Michigan. If you can find a local dealer that is willing to do a courtesy delivery for you, usually at a small fee, then order one from her and have it drop shipped to that dealer. I got an awesome deal on a limited production car, and paid my local dealer $250.00 to do the delivery. It was much less than paying what a local dealer wanted, and saved on the shipping by having it drop shipped. This will only work on a factory order, not an on stock unit. If she has what you want on order at a certain point in production, she might be able to change the ship to dealer like she did with mine. It's free to ask.......
