So I was cruising along in a town about 30 miles away from where I live on a nice cool 86 degree night when I hit a 4 way intersection. I stop, do the usual look around routine, nobody was coming so I proceed to go when all of the sudden my nice 3rd gen decides to just cut off right there... No warning, no sputtering, just stop.
I put it in park and it started right back up. This being considered the ONLY hiccup I've had out of the car after about 400-600 miles of use. I'm thinking it was just a whatever kind of deal but I'd hate for my fuel pump or my alternator to go out on a 5 hour moving trip I'm scheduled to make in a week and a half or so. I noticed it's about time to replace the alternator and AC belt because they are pretty wore out. (The alternators belt is developing a small tear in it as we speak.) I plan to go to Orielly's today and get new belts. So has anybody had this problem before? 383 TPI (bored over factory 5.7 350) Everything's pretty much standard except for the engine being bored over The car has sat for 3 or 4 years but after changing all the fluids and a little maintenance, it overall runs pretty great. The fan relay is out but I do have the parts necessary to fix it, just this damn daily 101-111 degree Texas heat is keeping me from doing it. I've jury rigged a manual switch that just turns the fan on when I flip a switch in the cockpit. Any advice would be really appreciated |

I had a truck that did this a few times. I couldnt figure it out at first but very scary, in the end I found the connector to the oil pressure sensor was not pushed on all the way and would seperate enough at times the computer would sense no oil and shut it down without warning. I reseated the connector and all was good after that. Good luck

I believe I've found the problem, turns out the idle air control valve is giving me hell. It either needs to be cleaned, but with my luck it's probably going to be replaced. Oh well, if I get lucky then all I guess I'll end up spending is $25 for a new IAC gasket. But I think I'm gonna be out $75 or more for a whole new IAC.
