They were saying yesterday, the camaro can NOT get into a discount war... If you discount it from the start. The overall value of the car plummits. This is bad, not only for the collectors market, and the resale market, but for GM as a whole.

GM, well actually Ford and whats the name of the other one?, they have all played themselves out with the $4000 cash back employee pricing with 0% for 84 months across the line for years and years. They have made it their business model and I don't care how cool the Camaro is, they will be selling them at invoice just like all of their other cars including Vettes in a short period of time. Its a catch 22 to be an early buyer, I think the preorders will bring good money, but when that demand has been met and you get to the average buyers, its gonna be a tough sell.

I agree, with you on the "post hype" sales. But that is one of the problems that have caused GM's current problems... Its why Toyotas have a HIGH resale value and why Chevy's don't. Everytime a rebate is issued or cash back is offered it isnt just a discount on the purchase price.. its an overall decrease in the value of the vehicle. |

What people don't get and won't get for a number of years is that Ford is building exceptional cars and Chevy has made huge improvements as well. It will just take a number of years for people to accept that they have parity with the foreign nameplates. They do right now but people just haven't accepted it. I wouldn't think twice about buying a Camaro or a Chevy truck or another Vette, but I have an expectation that I will get the car cheap and with incentives. Again, that is something Chevy has created in my mind and they have a tough road ahead to undo some long term ideas that they have reinforced for so many years. ONE CAVEAT: I really want them to succeed, not only that, I would like to see them get back on top. If they get a little boost from the buy American sentiment, that is fine by me.

Don't expect to see discounts on the Camaro for at least the first year or so (assuming the economy is still in a rut). The people who are going to buy a Camaro in the first year are the ones who have been waiting for it for quite some time and are willing to pay good money for it. GM wouldn't throw that opportunity away by discounting the Camaro out the gate.
Even if/when the Camaro does get discounted, I suspect the SS will not be part of it. Keep your fingers crossed, but don't count on it. |

![]() Rebates and incentives are used to move cars that are not selling, what logic is there here for GM to do that. We may see a reduce finance rate but don't count on 0%. Last edited by fireresq157; 03-17-2009 at 03:54 PM. |

Why would a company discount a car that's selling well. If Camaro demand dropped significantly, which it probably won't for a long time, then they should discount it.

Quote: Paying a Premium? The price of the V6 is incredible for what we are getting, you're making it sound like i'm cutting my right arm off to be a first on the road owner.
I have to agree with GothamCamaro. Even for the V8 priced at 30K for the 1SS and 33K for 2SS is a steal. You are not going to find another vehicle today with the same features and performance in that price range. If you are going to see any moves by GM it would be in the realm of financing. Maybe 0% or hopefully something better than the going rate at the local banks

You guys are overreacting to my "premium" comment. Of course the new Camaro at MSRP is a raging deal. I was reacting to those that were upset if buyers down the road get a better deal than those who pre-ordered. The premium is no discount for first adopters. That's all I was saying. Also, I don't think the car will be discounted soon. The deal I might be looking for in a couple years is a good finance rate.

Joe's right.
Besides, its way to early in the Camaro life cycle, way to early in the economic disaster, way too early in the current gas price see-saw to even hesitate a guess what is going to happen to Camaro prices ... especially when they've pre-sold 14,000 vehicles before they've even hit the showroom! |
