Chevy confirms that CGM and IBM are gone for 2012!

Why is it assumed that GM won't be replacing the discontinued colours with anything?

Ok, so I know it is a bad situation, but...here's an idea, when ordering a 2012 and you get to the paint section put none. Then ask for the GM paint voucher(I'm sure the paint job cost $500.00-$2000.00) then go get it painted at Maaco(Or your brother in-law Lou's).
I remember there was a paint shop called Earl Sheib's. He said he'll paint any car for $29.95!(I think that was back in the early '70s) Now it's $99.95.
At least you can look through the paint catalogue and if you don't see CGM or IBM you can find one you like better like gray with red metallic flakes or whatever your heart desires. Agreed not optimum but now you won't be tied to 9 colors.
You remember the IROC-Zs? My uncle got like an '82? IROC-Z. This bad boy was a medium blue metalic and was eye-popping! I remember riding in it once. I have seen Chevy/GM blue paints in the past that were just spectacular. I have noticed that not every Chevy gets same blue either, like Luminas or Cavaliers etc...
Lastly, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Maybe the shade of blue or gray is not to your liking. This would be the opportunity to address that. Can't they use the computer and color match it also? Just thought I'd chime in...

Maybe they'll replace CGM with a better gray. Something more like Ford's Dark Shadow Gray, which is a better color I think.

Too bad. Both CGM and IBM are colors best appreciated in person.

I have had several people see my CGM and say it's the best color they've yet to see on a 5th Gen. I have a neighbor with am IBM and it's simply stunning. While I'm happy that my car will have some semblance of exclusivity, it's not a good thing for GM. It's also going to mean that when it comes time to repaint my baby I may have a hard time finding the original color.

That is pretty close to CGM, and I think it is pretty cool. It doesn't have the blue flake in it though.

That's the Carbon Flash metallic that everyone is talking about. It's more of a metallic black than anything else.

Anybody ordering a new one, order it in silver and have it custom painted when you get it. Silver works as a great basecoat under any metallic, whether blue, gray, green or whatever. The factory paint is so thin if anything breathes on it, it puts a ding or chip in it. Have the shop that custom paints yours put a nice curable layer of clear over it so you won't have it chip away.

That's an easy thing to say. "Yeah, just spend over 5 grand to get a different color, becuase GM's color pallet is absolutely boring."

CGM is my 2nd or 3rd choice for a SS but I found my 2010 CGM 2SS/RS 6M LS3 with 3400 miles only for 29K even! I bought it cos it was the equipment and price I wanted.
