There are an awful lot of assumptions in your post to me. Are you psychic or just a very emotional type first think later kind of person?

I guess you've probably been taken for a ride once or twice and now decided you hate the guy who just wants to sell you a car.

In my opinion the absolutely happiest buyers are the buyers that pay what I ask them to pay. The people I make money from still call me to ask how I'm doing and ask my advice about upgrades and send me countless referrals.

"A great deal is a state of mind"

The ones that get the $50 mini deal are usually not interested in getting any special service or VIP treatment or heavens no HAVE A GOOD CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE!! Your experience in the dealership is only what you make of it, and it's not all about the money.

I sell a very good product and I know EVERYTHING about my product. I am no slouch, I will test drive as many times as the customer wants and never make a customer walk the lot (it's a big lot). I go get each vehicle in the rain, sun, snow, whatever. I get into these sun-baked cars and get the A/C running for YOUR convenience. I bring you coffee/tea soda and make you comfortable.

I will put everything I have into making a friend and providing the absolute best service. And once all that is done and we have the car you want, you decide to beat the hell out of me on the price until nothing is left except a $50 mini deal? If you were in the business you'd know how it feels.

But it's not everyone, and I usually make good money. And to defend myself against being a lazy low-life scumbag, let me explain my background. I have been a professional CHEF for 16 years and was in management with a large well known 5 star hotel corporation. I was only making about 50k a year and working 80-90 hours a week. I got a bachelors degree in Culinary Arts from the best school in the nation and am still paying student loans. In February of this year I decided to retire from the business and try to sell some cars because with 50k a year, its paycheck to paycheck. Now I'm selling cars and grossing TRIPLE what I made in my real career!! (I'm still working 80-90 hours a week though).

I'll finish with a TL;DR

Not all, not even most salesman are bad people. We are just trying to make a good living and I promise to EARN EVERY PENNY I MAKE.

BJ's Guidebook: "when to beat up your salesperson on the price"

When I bought my Camaro, I was on my way to a different dealer and decided to stop by another one on the way.

This little homey named "Shaquille" came out when I was browsing the only 2LT vert on the lot. He slapped the dealer tag on the bag and tossed me the keys. My wife was with me and we test drove without him.

Now being in the car business, I am pretty critical of salesperson performance much the same way I'm critical when I eat out after sixteen years being a chef.

This guy was pretty bad. He knew absolutely zero about the car he was trying to sell. His only choice was to sell the price, and he did it, badly. He never offered me anything to drink, and was generally a rude guy, not really caring if I bought or not.

I admit, I got tough on him with my trade and let them know they were trying to hold $4k on my trade (they were only trying to hold $2k I knew). After getting them to come off their trade money, I know from having my vehicle shopped at my dealer they ended up overallowing by $500 rather than holding.

With that settled, the manager took over completely due to his salespersons ineptitude. I worked the deal and got what I wanted. But honestly, I was still buying emotionally and if the salesperson had been good/nice and knowledgeable, I would have paid him for his time/knowledge.

Also, once I bought the car, I never got one phone call from anyone, not a manager, not the salesperson, no thank you, NOTHING. That is just insane! I call my customers after 48 hours, I call them after 30 days. I call them on their birthday. I call them on their one year anniversary of having bought.

Okay, so as you see, I'm guilty of beating up salespeople too, but only the ones that have it coming.

If you land on me as your salesperson and I work my butt off for you and answer every question you could possibly have, DON'T BEAT ME UP!!

Im sorry to tell you that if what you say you do is true then you are the exception not the rule. There is a reason that Car Salesman have a "reputation".

Its not from ONE persons nightmare story....It is because that has become the norm, finding a good one is hard to do. Why do you think SO MANY OF US on this website look to Anna and Becky who are completely ACROSS THE COUNTRY for most of us...Think about that...Why would we be willing to buy something so far away?

So Bjones... You make 150k a year in a job that requires little more then studying a spec sheet and general good manors to do... And think it's ok to call people who most likely make a third of that "maggots" when they don't throw money at you?

You could be right about my assumptions, here are a few more. You must not be very bright, to choose a career that would not support you, still have student loans to pay off and work 80-90 hours per week. And then switch careers to something you openly admitted you know very little about, just for the almighty dollar, the way you post makes you sound like that low life scumbag greedy salesperson that only cares about his paycheck. You lack respect for people just because they educate themselves to what they want and what they want to pay for it, really to call them maggots for shopping around for the best possible deal on a mass produced car, I would call them stupid if they didn’t.
Just to give you a slight glimpse into my background, I have been a diehard Chevy enthusiast my entire life, I have probably forgotten more about the product you sell than you have ever learned. I worked in car sales for Chevy for 19 months while working my way thru college, in that time I received 5 salesman of the month awards, and I did it without grinding people and demeaning them when they worked their best possible deal, I had my fair share of lay downs and used cars I made money on but I wouldn’t waste my time stretching out the process, the sooner I rolled them down the road the sooner I could be back on the floor to sell another. That is how you make the money, quantity and customer satisfaction.
After my degree I realized I missed the car biz, but not sales, I didn’t enjoy working with the scumbag low life’s that only cared about themselves, always talking shit on the clients that made their paychecks. I spent 23 years working at GM dealers in the service dept. I left GM as a Mark of Excellence service manager, Platinum level and went to work at a high line European import dealer, mainly for the professionalism, and yes the almightily dollar.
Here's some free advice, if you truly want to be a salesperson as a career. First treat everyone like you would want to be treated, know your product inside and out, and don’t judge people just because they took the time to find out what they can buy a car for, remember your not selling Ferrari’s, the consumer can just go down the street to the next dealer and trust me, they will get the deal they are after. Stop being greedy take the mini deal, it will probably be the one that gets you to your next quantity bonus at the end of the month.
And lastly, I've never been taken or paid too much, I'm an educated consumer, and I've never spent more than 90 minutes at a dealer to purchase a car, my time is to valuable. If they can’t get it done in that time, they can deliver the car to me at my convience; I only deal with true professionals. And trust me they get a lot of referrals from me.
