2010/2011 Camaro SS vs 2004 Corvette Z06

Obviously performance wise, the corvette wins hands down. However, they are going on 8 years old and can be found slightly cheaper than a 1 year old 2ss so price wise they are very similar. With this in mind, what are your opinions on driveability, convenience, looks, performance, fun factor, tuned LS1 vs LS3, interior, common problems with each model, technology etc...

Opinions?

I like the looks of both. The Camaro will have the more comfortable ride, but the Z06 is a performance machine. So it will probably come down to what you want. Some more things to consider -- the SS will probably still have a warranty if that's important to you. If you want to mod, the Z06 can be made into an absolute beast if you want to.

The C5 zo6 kinda looks outdated. Depends if you want a DD or a weekend race car. Both are great cars.

04 Z06 - definitely has the performance advantage. If performance is all you care about, then the Vette is the better choice.

But as mentioned, the 04 Vette is a little outdated to look at. There's just so many late model vettes on the road (in my area). Just on my street alone, 5 people own a late model Vette. I'm the only Camaro on my street.

Camaro - its just a cool looking car. You've also got a back seat and a nice amount of storage with the seat folded down. Not that long ago, I got 4 wheels in my car. I can also take my 6'5" surf board to the beach in my car. And you can put a couple kids or a couple cramped adults in the back seat.

Camaro- more comfortable driving position. Also more comfortable ride.

But the 04 Z06 will always have the performance advantage (stock vs stock and mod vs mod).

I traded in my 2004 Z06 for my LS3 SS last year. That was 14 months and 12,000 miles ago. I definitely miss the Z06, but I have absolutely NO REGRETS trading it in towards the SS.

Below are a couple of replies I've given people in the past asking the "Corvette or Camaro?" question. The posts may be a bit long winded, but they should give you an idea of the differences between the two, and the thought that went into my finally deciding to trade the Z06 in on the SS. Hopefully they'll give you some insight.

Those are great posts Ron. Very informative.

What really pulls me towards the 04 Z06 is that when it comes time to purchase (probably next summer) I will be graduating with my masters and new into the workforce. The fact that I will be saving at least 5-10k on the Z06 over the SS while still getting a sports car with heavy performance is great. It's nice to see that if I want to move on to the Camaro a couple years after that, then it won't be much of a downgrade (if any).

However, if the Camaro is purchased off the bat then it would be more of an investment. I have to admit, I am a fun of the raw sports car feeling. Where you feel every bump on the road and riding low to the ground. That's how my dad's camaro is and I LOVE IT!!!

Thanks for the comments from everyone.

I love the Camaro, but the Corvette is in a class of it's own. Compare an LS3 C6 Corvette to an LS3 SS Camaro and you'll see what I mean. They are two totally different cars.

Interesting posts, Ron. I always loved everything about the C5Z. I just prefer to buy new and not to finance a vehicle without a warranty, and a new C6 is far more expensive than a 1SS. I'm assuming the C5Z is more of a raw, performance only type car, much like the 4th generation cars feel like (with less power of course).

I would have to disagree with you on that one. They are extremely different and serve two different purposes.

+1 they sure are completely 2 different cars. LS3 vette is on par with the c5zo6's in stock form only because of gearing, TM, and the z is lighter, but once modded the ls3 takes it. the ls3 in the vette will def. show more of what it is capable of

That would be an ls6 not ls1. Had one and they are great cars. C5z will kill a camaro period.
