Part of the problem is most news anchors work in New York City and don't drive. Same for the politicians in DC. They climb in a limo or taxi or subway car and fiddle with their BlackBerrys 'til they get to work. They don't have a clue how cars work or who's building the good ones, but they're gonna tell us what GM needs to do to stay afloat. I am personally excited by the Volt as a halo car to change public perception, but anybody who thinks a $40,000.00 hybrid is going to put GM in the black is clueless. The hope is that people drawn to dealers to see it will turn around and go "25 Grand, 29MPG, and it looks like THAT? I'll take a Camaro."

and don't compare Fox News' ratings with those of CBS, NBC, and ABC nightly news, because you'll lose. By a lot.

you know what's funny, even when the old numbers where used on cars, I have always got better mileage on the highway then what is stated. They are much stricter now and I get quite a bit better than the old numbers. I have a 99z28 automatic and it was 24 highway, and I got about 25 on a long interstate drive. That would be 22mpg on the new system they use. I get an average of about 20 with mostly in city driving. My wife has a 2007 saturn Aura 3.5l with the 4 speed auto. I think it was rated at 27 or 28 and we got 31 going to florida. She averages 24mpg with 70% in town driving. If the new CAMARO on the new EPA system is supposed to get 29mpg, you had better belive anyone doing long distance interstate driving with be at around 33-35mpg. I actually think the SS will get close to 30 as well. We'll see, maybe I'll eat these words, maybe I'll be happy I was right. We'll find out soon.

My point is that it is often claimed that ALL of the mainstream press is liberal, which I disagree with. Fox has a conservative and widely followed basis, with many hours of bias-free programming. MSNBC has a less widely followed liberal basis, also with many hours of bias-free programming. CNN stays down the center most of the time, as do the three major networks' evening news shows. I think it is simplistic to claim the entire news media is constantly pushing the same agenda. In fact, there's plenty of good reporting and plenty of biases of all shapes and sizes out there.

Dragon, my last couple of responses are an attempt to discuss the topic of this thread, the media's treatment of the rollout of the Camaro. I'm trying to avoid the overtly political tone it developed, while dealing with the perceived biases in the media towards GM and cars in general.

I agree with Greenrail that the biggest problem seems to be they don't understand "car guy mentality", and I think that has more to do with most of them not driving than political ideology.

Those pesky research scientists are only claiming global warming to keep their federally funded grants coming in. No global warming and their cash cow dries up. It doesn't take a scientist to figure it out. Worthless obama wont drill for our own oil, now thats nuts.

Probably why I believe Jay Leno would make a better Automotive Journalist than some of those Shining Star Prima Donnas on FOX, CNBC, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, or NBC.

To me they all contribute more to Global warming via their consumption of Oxygen by breathing.

Most of those doofus's couldn't even change their own flat tire, let alone understand the perspective of the Enthusiast.

Leftists in the media envison everyone (except themselves) packed like sardines in public transportation (rail or buses). They hate the automobile because it represents individualism. They, leftists America, want to transform America into a collectivist prison.

On the subject of the thread.. Most media, do push a ECO-friendly agneda nowadays because it is politically correct, and the name Camaro has never been a name used in association with economy.. GM does need to do some counter PR work to get the word out that this is not your fathers Camaro, it is a Camaro for the 21st Century!

Just to show how Out of wack things have gotten, there was a story on the news last year about a new company here that makes Geothermal heaters for the home. It is supposed to cut your heating bills by 40%.. well a friend of mine at work had one put in this past summer, and guess what? His heating bill actually doubled over last year,(his electric use went up 25% over last year the price of electricity per KWH went up 25%) while my cost just went up about 20% without changing anything and using about the same amount of gas..(natural gas heat)..(cost of natural gas here went up about as much as my bill did) So just because something is supposed to be Good For the environment sometines can have a reverse effect...

And then lo and behold the Chinese want to lay eminent domain claims to the undersea deposits.

Congress: "I know, why not sell them Alaska to settle all of this debt? TGFSM knows they'd have a better use for that place than we ever did, right Sarah?."

'Sarah': "I can still see Russia from my house..^_^ OH! Chinese is here, brb."
