Just watched a vid on this and it never stops the car, it just brings it to about 1-2 mph.

So if your a smart thief you can still get away, Just very slowly!!

So true.
It's encroaching ever so slowly.
Some claim even the paper currency is/will be marked.
I have yet to sign-up for EZ-Pass.
So many ways to pervert a useful tool.

Time was the only 'paper-trail' I was concerned about was when leaving a public restroom.

that is a very nice feature. we used onstar to track a stolen here in phx. this was before they added this feature, it was still a cool site to see because onstar gave us the play by play on where he was. every turn he made, there we were. the dumb@$$ told us that something in the truck was talking to him but he didn't know what it was, it was the onstar rep. he ended up wrecking the 80,000 dollar silverado hd with a 6" lift into a cannal. In the "process" he was also "hurt".

I really look forward to having OnStar on the Camaro. I'm sure it will be a popular vehicle for thieves, and having OnStar makes me feel very comfortable should anything happen.

Anyone know off the top of their what the monthly/yearly cost for OnStar is?

Well being that onstar can locate your car and tell you the location, then kill the engine using this feature, you can contact the authorities, or ONSTAR can, and have the car stopped and perps apprehended. I would bet thats most likely how the scenario plays out.

If my car were to be stolen my first call would be to the cops to get them on the road and the report started, second to Onstar to getthe location and kill the engine, then I or Onstar would call back the cops and provide them with that info.

I just wish I could pay a yearly fee and keep this feature only, I have no use for the navigation.

You have to get the information to the dispatcher that has to call the info into ONSTAR. All while driving at high speeds with all the adrenaline pumping and everything. All of the normal info a police officer has to put out during a pursuit, speed, direction of travel, where and when the bag of crack gets tossed out the window. A whole lot of stuff going on during a pursuit. Most pursuits last less than 10 minutes so this option from ONSTAR is tricky at best.
so true +1

You can just pay for the "Safe & Sound" plan which includes the everything (air bag deployment notification, theif recovery, emergency services help, etc) but the navigation, it is costing $19/month now. The navigation is called "Directions and Connections" and is an additional $10/month. Onstar also had multi year discounts to allow you to save a few pennys. My opinion would be to drop the "Direction and Connections" plan after the free 1 yr (at least its going to be free for the first year on my 2LT).

Wonder if On* locks the theif in the car too? They have remote unlock, so I bet they could do it. And as for tracking, I guess turn by turn works both ways. And would On* patch into the Impala that they use as a cruiser? Again, I don't see why they couldn't

This isn't exactly the order it's done but close. You first have to report the car stolen to the police then you have to call Onstar and tell them that your car has been stolen and that you have filed a police report. Onstar will then cooperate with the police to locate the car. If the car is on the road and someone is driving, Onstar will not turn off the fuel pump until the police let them know that the car has come to a stop or is traveling at a safe speed in safe conditions to do so.
