And just fyi, the V6 Camaro's are capable of pulling similar times to this ^ Just a tad better in fact.

Blueclyde is correct. Gearing, HP, weight, tire type/size, short answer is:
NOPE! [F=ma, where F=force, m=mass, a=acceleration (i'm sure there are several more that apply that I am too lazy to post)]

This has nothing to do with the post but remdds everytime I see your avatar it just makes my day.

OK back to regularly scheduled programming. Just forget about the physics and enjoy it!

Anyone been to T3 in 3D Imax?

Thinking about getting seniors matinee tix for next week at $17.50 each. Worth the extra money?

While I'm not a huge Ford fan, it was pretty fun to drive, and I clearly remember the zip it produced when I got into it. Here's my question after comparing some HP/weight statistics. My new Camaro will have roughly a 60% increase in horsepower to weight ratio over that Mustang. Does this translate literally/linearly? In other words, should I reasonably expect the G force felt through acceleration to be 60% more than that Mustang? Should my new Camaro cover 1600 ft as that Mustang only managed 1000 ft? Will my Camaro be going through 80 mph as that Mustang went through 50 mph? If any or all of this remotely true, my already heightened anticipation will jump ten fold. I don't know that much about car physics, but was confident that someone here could analyze this for me. If it doesn't work like this, what is a better estimation on the performance increase?
No.

You have 60% more horsepower, but not everything will be increased linear by 60%. Too many factors play into it: weight, gearing, traction, aerodynamics, and the individual engine hp and torque curves.

My bike only has 116hp (73% LESS than my LS3), but the bike will do 0-60 in 3.8s, which is a couple of seconds faster than the Camaro. Make sense?

The SS is amazingly fast, too fast for regular streets if you arent careful. But it is also a modern car and, as such, quite a bit heavier than older ones. That extra mass takes more to get moving, and also shifts more when turning. That being said, we already know the HP#s from 'back then' where not calculated the same way as they are now.. Our 400hp is considerably more power than 400hp from the 60s/70s.

I think the speed "feel" is very deceiving in the SS. If you are going through the gears without looking at the speedo, you don't realize just how fast you are going.

if the rustang weighs in at 3400lbs and has 210 hp, and does the quater in 14.8 as posted above, then as a rule of thumb, 100lbs gain or loss equates to .1 second et. the camaro weighs about 3800lbs and has double the hp and goes low 13s say 13.2. if the rustang gained 400 lbs then that would put it about 15.2. so now you are looking at 2 seconds for increase of 210 or so, horsepower. big difference but not 60% faster. for example it would take another 200 hp to shave the next second off the quater mile time.

since we are talking physics......

a body in motion at a constant velocity will remain in motion .....
