Ditch the Nav system and buy a map. Problem solved.

I don't have a nav system in any of my cars now and don't really need one obviously - however, if they can put one in the POS Yaris, they should put a flip up one in a 2SS - as an added option of course.

Personally I would go buy a Tom-Tom for $200 and never have to worry about making a monthly payment and it would pay for itself after 10 months.
I compared my Garmin to My VZ Navigator on my BlackBerry Storm.. and the VZ navigator is only off by about 20 feet.. but It costs me nothing since I have a Data plan from Blackberry.

Just get something small and portable and ur okay.
PS, map updates can cost like $70.. for some GPS units.

Odd, I have TWO BB Storm's and to get Verizon's VZ Navigator Service it added another $10 a month on top of my phone and data plan and since I have TWO Storms everything is DOUBLED. My monthly phone bill is $157/month from Verizon.

So using my BB as a GPS/Nav isn't cheap and the screen is rather small especially when mounted on the dash about 3 feet from my face. In addition the voice/speaker can't overcome wind or audio system noise.

There are pluses and minuses to both approaches so we really can't say one is BETTER than ANOTHER - just DIFFERENT.

I've got the Garmin Mobile XT software on my Windows Mobile based Sprint Mogul (HTC Titan/6800) and it works just like a standalone Garmin unit, maybe better. TomTom makes software too. I don't pay any usage fees. It can use the internet to find stuff like gas prices and use google to find addresses but it doesn't have to.

That's funny. According to Verizons site, the Data plan for Blackberry's does not include navigation.

$70 for map updates every what 2 years? That's still cheaper then paying an extra $10-$20 a month. $70 vs a minimum of $240. Seems like a no brainer to me. Even if you're the type of person who travels a lot and needs to update every year, $70 is still cheaper then $120.

I won't need a factory NAV for mine. I have a Garmin Nuvi and it works just great and I don't have a pile of raggedy old wet and crumpled maps in my car anymore. I can also use this in anyone of my four vehciles.

But, that's my preference.

The nav on the 3G iPhone works pretty good. We have the nav in my wifes Denali, but the update disc is pretty expensive..

My wife's 02 Lexus has NAV and we never use it- in fact neither of us knows HOW to use it. When I ordered my 08 Vette, I ordered it without NAV- it's not a daily driver and I won't be taking it on trips where I don't know where I am going.

If the Camaro is the success that I think it will be, I expect it could be offered as an option for the next model year, but I don't need it any more than I need a transmission to automatically change gears for me.

Think about how often you have really NEEDED this option in your non-NAV car. Did you miss a party or meeting recently because you didn't have it in your car? How often would you really need to use it?

Spend the money on a good sound system that you will use all the time. Just my $0.02.
