Texting while driving may be illegal...but according to another thread by a member here "Just turned 21 ".... its okay to take pictures of your spedometer/mileage while driving. And, what's the difference?

It amazes me that there needs to be a law to make texting illegal? I mean before there were cell phones (for those of us that remember that far back) you never saw someone penning a letter while driving?

Sorry about your Camaro, but glad you weren't injured. Ya, texting or phone use will be illegal everywhere pretty soon - but no one will care and law enforcement will be hard pressed to issue tickets.

I will use my iPhone via my bluetooth in the car (handsfree) but will not text or check emails til I arrive at my destination. Kids are different, they feel they are invincible (sp).

She will be as good as new..

Speeding is illegal and....

Making it illegal doesn't make the problem go away. People should be educated on why its important not to be distracted while you're driving.

Driving is a privilege not a right.

Sorry to hear about your Camaro; glad that the damage is minor!

Texting is a great tool that Technology affords us... Common Sense is a great tool that we are born with.

If only people would embrace Common Sense as much as they do Technology.

It is illegal to text and drive in Wisconsin too. I see the police on cell phones all the time while driving.

Yeah I didn't mean that either. I'll consider this a public service.

The best speech to text app I've found is Vlingo, and I like it a lot. You can use it for texting, emailing, and web browsing (as I recall it's free for the first function, and $5 or so for the others). If you want to text your good buddy John Smith, you say, "text John Smith (pause) message 'blah blah blah'". Short messages are best and you have to try to pronounce stuff clearly. It's also a legit iTunes app.

The second one is iRealSMS, which has optios to enable to read messages to you. That requires a jailbreak and you can configure it to only read messages aloud under certain conditions - say when you're connected to something by bluetooth.

A third related one is voice activator, which lets you do anything from launching apps to powering on/off the phone with an expanded Voice Control (iPhone 3GS and up obviously). Just push the phone button, tell the car "Bluetooth" then "voice", and from there say your app-launch command. With practice it works very well.

In addition to OnStar (if you still have it), it also gves you virtually all the functionality of Ford's very cool and capable Sync system for a fraction the cost. Not bad at all.

DAYUM! Man I wish I could find where my buddy found a statistic showing texting is exceeding the danger of drinking and driving! Story said MADD even got pissed over it then later retracted their statements condemning texting as well. It was a blog I believe so I have NO clue as to the accuracy of this information.
