Cloudy/Hazy Stripes 2010 Camaro
HELP!!! A little while ago i started noticing my stripes on bumblebee were looking couldy with a white haze to them, there was swirling in the haze so i figured it was from when I had the car detailed and they waxed over the stripes, i am not sure if you are supposed to wax over the stripes or not, or if it really is wax or not, it would seem stupid to not be able to wax the hood, but now i cant get this haze out. I took it in to the dealer ship and the service manager looked at it and agreed that it is not right, the stripes should not be hazy like that, they wrote it up as some kind of environmental contamination and covered it by warrantee they sent it out the the body shop and had those guys look at it, they didnt want to use their super degreaser for fear of damaging the stripes, it got sent back to the dealership where their detailers looked at it and tried to buff it out and clean it out with a mild detergent and water, it is better now but you can still see the hazy swirls in the sun. Since then the service guy has been paying attention to all the camaros he sees coming through that have the black stripes, one other car has the total hazy look like mine has, and one camaro has white spots in the stripes that refuse to buff out. The service guys are being awesome about it and just seem upset to not be able to come up with a satisfactory solution. He said we could replace the stripes but i dont know if they would adhear as well as they did from the factory, and i would probably just run into the same issue in the future, plus if it is wax and not something else this seems like a stupid problem to have, not being able to wax my hood/trunk/spoiler...
Has anyone else run into a similar issue, they said they are willing to try to work with us and they have been in contact with GM about trying to find a solution. They said if this is a major problem that lots of us are having they definatly want to know about it, and if anyone else has a good solution/prevention for this we would like to know about that as well, thanks Doug

From what I understand you cannot wax flat black stripes, but any gloss stripes you can wax. Let me find the link where they explain all this...

Most of the stripes are put on at the dealer not the factory.

That is half true. With the early production 2010's the stripes were not put on at Oshawa. They were a dealer installed accessory. This changed about 1/2 to 3/4 through production of the 2010s. All cars after the switch have stripes that were installed at Oshawa. (Though *technically* they are not really installed at Oshawa, the cars are driven to a separate factory/location where the stripes are installed. Round trip from Oshawa to the stripe installation place is about 12 miles.)
But as post #2 said already, you can't wax the flat black stripes. A solution that many members have found to work is Mother's "Back to Black". I have not personally used it, but from what I have read it is one of the easiest solutions to getting rid of the haze/cloudiness on the flat black stripes. |

i'll give it a try, thanks, seems stupid to not be able to wax over the stripes, how do you guys that have the flat black stripes wax your hood, just stay away from the stripes and use a q-tip of the line between the inside and out side portion of the stripes, or what, and i guess that means that you cant run it through a car wash that has the spray on wax either

I've been using Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer spray on mine with good results. It might be worth a try!

use painters tape and tape them off while you are waxing..this will also help in keeping the wax build up down inbetween the stripe and the paint so u don't have to dig it out..

hey guys, been a while, been busy with deployments and stuff, finally got this issue resolved. Back to black dudn't really work, it looked good for a day or so then came right back. I had the dealership look at it and they sent it to their body guys who tried to buff it out with no luck, they ended up replacing the stripes under warranty, they wrote it up as environmental damage or something. I am sure it is from the wax, it just seems crazy to think that a mass produced car cant be run though a car wash that sprays wax, or be hand waxed with out having to tape off large areas, and it seems to me that if it was from the wax that this would be much more common problem with people running their cars though a wash or taking it to a detailer who might not know to tape over the stripes. The dealership said they had never seen stripes as bad as mine were, and had only seen one other with spotting on the stripes. Seems weird for how many striped camraros are in my area

Good to see that you got them replaced without any out of pocket cost.
IMO, I would have left them off and had them painted on at a later date. This is one of the many reasons I do not like the stickers on Camaro's. |
