I'll probably have to go aftermarket because I want my stripes to extend past the hood and over the spoiler. The dealer would only want to install the LPO stripes and not anything, right?

Hopefully the installation "kits" they come with will make it pretty idiot proof when it comes to lining them up. I would never take delivery of a car I was not satisfied with.

It wouln't suprise me if the dealer gets an outside body/paint shop to do the work for them, and the dealer backs up the work with your warranty. A lot of dealers, especially in Canada, do that sort of thing with rust proofing, as they just can't provide a proper work place for that kind of work. (last info comes from past personal knowledge).

We have discussed, in detail, this very aspect. We are going to hire an outside company, that is experienced in installing stripes, to do all of ours. We don't need any half baked attempts at this...it's what I would expect on my car so it's what we're doing for yours.

Don't get us started on that "RUSTPROOFING"

1. since they are factory stripes and installed as per the order on the car they are covered under the bumper to bumper warrenty for 3 years or 36K miles.
If you have a second party install them the warrenty will be void on them so and if they start peeling off guess what, YOU pay to replace them...

2. If they do not install them correctly THEY will have to replace the stripes and reinstall them
If a second party you hire installs them, if they screw up, YOU pay to replace them..
Those are indeed good points in favor of the dealer installing the stripes as opposed to having someone outside the dealership install them. But the thread is really about factory installation versus dealer installation - it's not about someone outside the dealership doing the install.

This has been brought up in numerous previous threads, including the "mother of all stripes" thread. A lot of folks, including me, think the factory process will be more controlled, more consistent, and have a much stricter QA process than what happens at individual dealers.

However, as far as point #2, it could get awkward. I mean, if you're a perfectionist like DDustiNN (or me), the slightest imperfection in the installation is going to drive you crazy every single time you look at them. And once you notice something is wrong, it will be that much more noticeable each time you look at it. So, if the stripes installed by the dealer tech are not exactly perfect (they're slightly crooked, not perfectly parallel to each other, don't line up lengthwise with the edge of the hood exactly, etc.), then you've got to confront the tech/service manager or whoever, and complain. It's just something I wouldn't feel comfortable doing, personally.

And then if you do see an imperfection, your next job is to convince the dealer that it's worth removing (and probably destroying), getting a new set of stripes and trying again. I'd just rather not go through that process. :(

On the other hand, the majority of dealers will likely have no trouble installing the stripes to the owner's satisfaction. So, it all comes down to how competent and conscientious the tech is at your particular dealership, as to how good the stripes will be applied.

When I was at the dealer and then at the bodyshop I'd see many stripe packages from the factory with templates to help center the stripe up. I'm hoping/thinking this may hold true here, but even if not, after watching stripeguys come out an install many of these stripes, it shouldn't be too big a deal. I think many of us here would be able to do it ourselves, if it were necessary. I wouldn't worry too much. Skyman' made great points (among others who've posted )
