misfire issue

ok so I have a question for everyone, I have had my car at the dealership more than a few times. I had the #5 injector go out, dumped so much fuel in the engine that they had to replace the injector, spark plug, oil, all O2 sensors and the catalytic converter. Since then I have had issues with it runnning, I get a surge that happens between 1500 and 2000 rpm but no codes. I took it to the dealership to have them look into and they "couldn't duplicate" the problem so I drove it for about a month longer with it still having this problem. Took it back last monday and the mechanic rode along with me and he saw the problem. Told me on wednesday that there was a misfire in the #5 cylinder, funny how its the same cylinder, today they call me and tell me that they didn't replace anything. "The problem is that I buy my gas from racetrack and the additives are causing the #5 cylinder misfire." They want me to get my gas from Gate instead because that will fix the #5 cylinder misfire. Now to me, if it was the gas I was using I would get a misfire in more than just the #5 cylinder. Am I wrong in assuming this?????

Hey James, I've been doing PDIs this summer at that dealership and seen your car in a few times...I've been trying to catch you so I could tell you about our website but I'm glad you already found it...I'll talk to that mechanic tomorrow and see if there's anything more to the story. I found it weird that your car was in for so long to begin with...
Hope you get some real answers soon

Thanks, all I have to go off of is what the service guy is telling me. It just doesn't make sense to me as to why they are saying that the fuel would only cause one injector to misfire. Its been very frustrating to say the least

Have you tried fueling up at another another gas station to debunk this theory?

On a side note: RaceTrac gas? Really?

Tell them you got gas somewhere else and still have the problem. But you would have a misfire on other cylinders if it was the gas. Maybe check the gap of the spark plug to make sure it is correct. Also, unplug the battery for 10 min. It might help.

I am getting my car back tomorrow, they drained the tank and put gate gas in. I was told to drive it for a week and then come back to see if the problem went away. I get gas from the racetrack on 17 in O.P. mainly because they usually have the best prices and its conveniently on my way to work. I have never had a problem with any of my other vehicles that I fill up there and I never had a problem with my camaro until after the #5 injector went out about 3 months ago.

I know Shell is usually a little more but if you figure the difference its a couple bucks a tank... There are lots of studies that show Shell, BP other top tier gasolines are better for your car... Might be worth a try...

Several other threads around about fuel too...

I get gas all different places but gate seems to wake the car up a little.

I'm sorry but you need another dealership to work on your car. I buy gas where I need it and have used racetrack gas with no problems. if it was a randem miss fire I mite say yeas but the same you have another problem

Nope, doesn't sound right to me.

I'd say go to another dealer. I'd been using Coggin with zero luck. and finally switched to Jerry Hamm.

They have a camaro/corvette Tech there named Mike. He's pretty good.

Hopefully you haven't been going there already. If we need to we can try and get customer service involved.
