Exclamation Engine wire harness clip can damage wiring

Just solved a blinking reverse lamps problem that turned out to be caused by a metal clip that holds the engine wire harness. I guess problems could vary since it depends what wire the clip cuts into. On my car it happened to be the reverse lamp wires. I could see this clip being responsible for a number of different intermitent problems on 2010 - 11 LS3 camaros.

The clip is located on the passenger side front cylinder head. It is below the oil filler cap as seen in photo 1.

Photo 1 shows the offending clip

Photo 2 shows the metal 1/2 moon that can nick the wire harness

Photo 3 shows the damaged harness

Photo 4 shows the nicked wires

interesting...did you have any aftermarket parts installed to that stud that holds that clip? I recently had a problem there and will check my harness out to see if it is doing that.......

No mods at all, started doing it with less than 300 miles.

I checked this same wiring clip on my L99 and sure enough it was starting to cut into the outside wiring cover. It had not broken through just yet, but in another 2K miles or so, I would have a cut wire as well. I have just under 8K on my 2010 1SS L99 now.

I simply loosened the negative cable nut and then the nut holding the clamp under the negative cable. I rotated the wiring harness clamp and reshaped it a bit to be "round" again. Now it looks good. Before I tightened anything up, I also made sure the wiring harness clamp that goes down from that same mount point was positioned correctly around the wiring harness that it holds in place too.

Thanks for the heads up on this one!

I could have sworn that there was a bulletin for this.

There is a TSB for a problem in this same general area, but it's the hose clamp located just below this wiring harness that might have the edges of the hose clamp digging into the wiring harness. If the hose clamp is not touching the harness no action was to be taken by the service tech.

If you look inside the mounting clip, there's a 1/2 moon piece of metal that needs to be flattened. No clue why they would have designed the clip that way.

The clip shown in the TSB Photo is not the one that gave me a problem. It's the clip behind it, visible from the passenger side, in-line with the oil filler cap.
