New Convertible Top - protectant or not?

Need thoughts on whether to put protectant such as 303 fabric guard on new top or tonneau cover? Car is garaged most of the time and rarely in the rain.

Nah, likely not needed. Had mine garaged, driven 35K in seven and a half years, black top looked the same as the day I bought it. Even with my cat sleeping on it

Others might have a different opinion, but in my case it wasn't needed at all.

I use 303 on mine- I have pix in my build thread of the water pooling and beading off, pretty amazing actually! Had the first top replaced due to the wear marks/bracket issue, trim shop that did the replacement does custom restorations on collector cars, they reccomended 303 or Rag Top protector... id suggest using it.

Is 303 (or better brand) available in O'Reilley's or similar shop or do you have to go to a boat shop (or online) to get it? Is it pretty much a spray on and forget? Safe if overspray gets on paint?

Thanks! Sorry for the rapid-fire questions!

I did mine just to be on the safe side however id suggest you be a bit more careful than me and mask off a good portion of the area under the top to avoid overspray going on other areas of the car. I got quite a bit on my rear window and its a pain to get it off...after several washes it STILL exists
As for your other questions....
Yes most likely you do have to go to a boat/marine store or order it online i dont think other stores would carry it
Yes its pretty much spray on easier to deal with when its hot and the suns out just keep it away from water/dew for a day so it cures properly
Overspray on anything is fine as long as you wipe it out quickly dont let it cure

Jajru,

Try a bit of lacquer thinner on a cloth for the back window.

Got mine at a boat shop. And I used large trash bags- popped the top and closed over them, made it vert simple. Rear window I covered w an old rag

I used the 303 great product water just rolls right off now. I used newspaper and painters tape to protect the surfaces I did not want it on. I did buy it at a marine store.

Used 303 on mine, 16 oz. bottle didn't quite cover the entire top. Hard ot tell if you got it on ok because it foams as it applies. .
I'm not unhappy with it, but may try Ragg Top next year instead.

Make sure you cover your painted surfaces and trim! Drago's got a great idea, pop the top and drape trash bags over the edges.

I have heard the 303(or simular) product will help protect the top(and threads) from harmful uv rays.
