JL Audio HD 900/5 or HD 600/4 & 750/1

I currently have a JL Audio HD 600/4 and an HD 750/1. I am considering selling both amps and getting a JL Audio HD 900/5 instead to consolidate everything into a one amp and save space. Is this a worthwhile move, or will the 250w loss I suffer on the sub amp portion make a huge difference? I currently have a 750w rms eclipse titanium subwoofer, but the sub I will be getting is a jl audio w6v2 in the stealth box. Please let me know your opinions.

Personally I would keep what you have.
Two schools of thought here:
1. You already have it AND two amps makes troubleshooting in my opinion easier. One path for sub and one for speakers.
2. All in one amp is an easier solution and saves space.

Just depends on what is most important to you.

Cheers

Adding I am currently looking at the HD 600/4 for my speakers and the HD 1200/1 for two 10". If that gives you an idea where I am coming from.

stick with what you want, if space is a problem dont forget that the amps are stackable.

Personally I'd go with the ONE amp. Makes things alot easier and I personally don't think you'll miss that power in the sub area..UNLESS you love to drive the system hard..matter of fact the hd900/5 is the amp used in my system design..

The HD600/4 will fit in the factory location, I believe, with ********s adapter plate with a little finagling. However I am not sure how the connectors route so that may be an issue. I did a comparison of the Xd400/4 and the HD600/4 and the mounting plate. It looks like it will go but not sure about the connectors, may be tight.

I may just try to mount it directly to the metal. First thing I will need to do is try to put it in there.. thanks for the help. I dont want to order that ******** plate and have it not fit.. The connectors on the hd amp are on the bottom so it be be tight.

I dont think you are going to be able to mount to the metal, you will need an adapter of some sort I believe.

Keep us informed as I am thinking about the HD600/4 and the factory location is an option I am considering.

I was trying to do the same with my HD 900/5. It didn't seem like it would fit. I was trying to use the ******** factory fit amp board though. You might get a bit more room without it.

The biggest challenge seems to be having enough room to plug the RCA cables and wires in and still have clearance. It also seemed to hit the back corner of the trim panel on that side. That didn't seem like a major issue because it is sort of flexible.

If you get it to fit let me know. I'm going to mount mine in the battery area for now.

Agent-
That was my worry, about the connectors. I didnt think about the corner though.

Tbone you could always mount it on the outside using the external amp rack?

Cheers

It depends on how much power you will need. The 900/5 is a great amp but you would lose power on mids / highs and subwoofer. You also have to remember the increased draw off your charging system with two amps. I would have the alternator upgraded anyways and upgrade your battery to a deep cycle.

I dont know where the antenna is on our cars but on the Vette's the antenna is between the rear tail lights. If you use a mono block amplifier it will mess with the radio reception. You may or may not listen to radio much but this will only happen if a monoblock amp is placed near that antenna.

If you stick with the two amps you have now you will be happy. Stack the two amps and have a custom enclosure built for them. Jl Audio is my favorite brand.

Well the class D amps will draw very little current from the electrical system as compared to a traditional A/B class amp..Alternator upgrade will not be needed..The deep cycle may be an upgrade down the road but not initially..As for power in competiton setting the SQ portion is judged at 90 dB so you will have more than enough power to hit 90 dB..Amplifier power is not a critical as the actual specs on the drivers used..
